Janet's obituary
Janet Buice Nesmith, of Hickory, North Carolina, died surrounded by family, on October 27th, 2024 at Frye Regional Medical Center after illness consumed her earthly body. Born in Winnsboro, South Carolina on November 18, 1949, Janet was the first daughter of the late Rebecca Starnes Wegner, of North Augusta, South Carolina and James Buice, of Williston, South Carolina. She left behind beloved siblings, Tim Buice (Sallie) and James (Pop) Buice, Jr. (Laura) and was predeceased by her sister Cheri Buice Barnes. She loved her daughter, Jenny Kinard Black (Sam) and especially adored her grandchildren , Olivia and Van Kanzleiter. Her Godchild and biggest blessing, Rodney Liles Jr., owned a piece of her heart as well. Janet also left behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from all walks of life.
Janet was a graduate of Williston-Elko High School, was a skilled basketball player and continued to be an avid basketball fan throughout her life. Her work included secretarial positions, clerical work, and accounting for many years. Her favorite job was working on the waterfront in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina as a shipping clerk. Much of her time with family and friends was spent cheering on the Carolina Gamecocks, or on the beach, enjoying the salt, sand, and sun, as the ocean was her refuge. She loved Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, the Isle of Palms, and Sullivan’s Island, and her memory will remain alive in the lush marshlands, moss-covered oak trees, and gentle breezes of the South Carolina lowcountry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Seacoast Church, 1064 S. Pinckney Street, McClellanville, SC on November 9th, at 4:00 PM.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the ER/ICU nurses and doctors at Frye Regional Medical Center, including Dr. Lamar and Dr. Graham.
