Janet's obituary
Dear Family and Friends,
Jan Kropf Mullet, 80, passed away early Wednesday, April 8, in Dave’s arms, surrounded by love.
When she was 10, Jan’s family volunteered in South Texas, an experience that helped shape her lifelong commitment to caring for others. Sixty-five years later, as an active member of Paoli Mennonite Fellowship, she participated in a program in Texas designed to support immigrants.
Jan lived a life of quiet devotion and steady purpose. A nurse practitioner with a special focus in pediatrics, she cared deeply for those she served. She taught at Goshen College, her alma mater, and devoted several years to volunteer work in Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. In 2024, a new nursing wing at Goshen College was named in her honor.
Her work carried her near and far. In 1974, she moved to Paoli, Indiana, to help bring healthcare to an underserved community. She traveled to remote villages in Nicaragua by mule and along the winding roads of southern Indiana to care for new mothers and their babies.
In 1981, she married Dave Mullet. Together they built a life rooted in both Paoli and Bloomfield, Montana. Wherever she lived, Jan created beauty and welcome—tending gardens, opening her home, and gathering people around tables filled with homemade ice cream and pie.
Jan and Dave grew their family through international adoption, welcoming their children, Aaron and Anna, from South Korea. She loved them with deep tenderness and unwavering care, and later embraced her role as grandmother to Audrey and Lydia, a joy she held close.
Jan had a gift for noticing small things and acting on them—whether stopping to “pull a weed” or “pick up a stick” on her walks, or taking a moment to “befriend” babies wherever she encountered them.
In her final year, Jan faced serious health challenges, including lymphoma, with quiet strength. She chose hospice care and was surrounded by compassion and presence.
She is survived by her husband, Dave; her children, Aaron (Hyeonseon) and Anna (Sean); her granddaughters, Audrey and Lydia; and her siblings, Gene and Joan. She was preceded in death by her parents Les and Vi Kropf, and her sister, Rosmary Allen.
A phrase that has guided her family:
“We are all here to walk each other home.”
Jan’s life—and her passing—gently reflect that truth.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, at Paoli Mennonite Fellowship, followed by a reception at Burton Event Venue, 2547 N SR-37, Paoli, IN 47454.
