We are celebrating the life of Jane Dorrel -- a true human being with nothing but grace and good intentions towards others.
HALFORD FAIRCHILD
2004, Lauren Lane, Culver City

I met Jane, better known as Frank and Jane, in early 2004 after I moved next door to them in Culver City.  It happens that we live on a hillside, and I drive by their house to get to mine.

Everyday I'd see their van with the "Addicted to War" advertisement in the back window and other progressive and anti-war stickers and bumper stickers.  I thought, "These are my kind of people."  So one day I knocked on their door and introduced myself.

Frank and I became fast friends -- we are committed to the same values -- and we are both avid poker players!

I soon learned that Frank and Jane were the nucleus of the Peace Movement in Los Angeles.  They hosted events -- screenings of new films, talks by visiting activists, concerts with live music and singing -- on a seemingly continuous basis.

Their home was the hub of peace awareness and activism for all of Southern California.

What did I learn from Jane?

Jane was the most gracious hostess, always smiling and always making sure that everyone was OK and having a good time.

I never witnessed the many hours she must have spent in preparing for the events -- attended by dozens or up to a hundred or more people -- or in cleaning up afterwards.

I learned that there was a human being --Jane -- with a giving spirit who was kind, gracious, warm and beautiful.

She was first diagnosed with cancer ten or more years before her transition -- and she suffered for many years -- but she never lost her smile or her love for others.

Jane was a beautiful soul and will be missed by many. A gracious host, opening up their home so all could learn, share, organize and have a good time doing it! Our thoughts are with you Frank and Emily. ❤

Jane was a wonderful person, with a big heart. If everyone in the world was as nice and thoughtful--and good--as Jane, this planet would be a much better place!

From the first time I met Jane and every time thereafter, Jane's smile told me so much about her. Little by little, I saw who she was and it all came out in her smile!

What I saw always was Jane's warmth, her concern for everyone, her generosity, her helpfulness and of course, her deep love for Frank, Emily, her family and the Peace Movement people, whom she greeted so many times, as she welcomed them to their home in Culver City for events for so many causes! My love for Jane has deepened and will always continue to do so. I truly believe she is still with us, as I have experienced Blase is still with me always. I love Jane, Frank and Emily so very much.

I have happy memories of events at the home of Jane, Frank, and Emily.  Jane was always the perfect hostess.
Jane was always kind and generous to me, and I think to everyone. Her smile lit up the world.
I never met Jane but through her daughter, Emily, I heard how special she was. I'm thinking about Emily & her family and all loved ones connected to Jane. <33
Jane gave Emily life.  She gave Frank a life.  Gave me inspiration.
Beautiful Jane; as beautiful in her heart and soul as she was on the outside.  Her compassionate listening, her gentle voice, her incredible kindness, her contagious smile, her immense love for Frank and Emily, and her JOYFUL presence will always be treasured memories for me.   I am forever grateful to have known and loved our friend Jane.
Love that smile!

Dearest Emily and Frank,

My heart goes out to you as I know the depth of love that was Jane and even in her humbleness she was the center of your universe.  Her capacities were huge and yet she never needed others to know that.  Her love was deep and yet her presence light.  She loved you both to the moon and back.  And the three of you were one.  That will always be true, she is here, she is with you, in you, and the ground you stand on.  Her unconditional love and her amazing smile and gentle presence is always there for you to tap into.  Celebrating the amazing woman who was your mother, wife and best friend. Rest in Peace and love dearest Jane.

Much love as you hold each other and find the new relationship with her.  Your fan and friend, Jodie

Jane was truly a fine person and a great neighbor. Like the rest of her family, she had an admirable commitment to a just society, backed by effort and not just words. She was a warm, open, generous, and welcoming person; she and Frank hosted wonderful parties in their home. I will miss Jane, and my condolences to all her family and friends.
