Jan was an avid supporter of UMDF in honor of her granddaughter who struggles with the disease. Every year on her birthday, Jan requested donations for UMDF in hopes that her granddaughter would reap the benefit from their work in research and treatments of mitochondrial disease. UMDF sponsors yearly symposiums to educate clinicians and families, supports and funds research into new drug therapies, new treatment options and supportive care and provides grants and scholarships to people living with the disease or working to find treatments.
