James "ROD" Summerford, 68, of Yorktown, VA passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022, after a long battle with heart disease.  James grew up in Newport News, VA.  He loved watching the Pittsburg Steelers and Nascar. He worked at Colonial  Williamsburg for 25 years years and 15 years for  Daily Press.  James was preceded by his parents Ed and Betty Summerford of Newport News. His sister MaryAnne Bottoms of North Carolina and a step-son Wesley Shannon Fitchett. . He is survived by his wife Darlene Fitchett-Summerford of 40 years., stepson Cliff Fitchett and stepdaughter Julia Fitchett, two sisters Carrie Young of Newport News, VA and Gerri Cawley of North Carolina. Also a very special niece Betty Jane Archer of North Carolina. Also he will be missed by his special granddaughter Erica Fitchett-Kurowski, Sofia Obregon, grandsons James Fitchett, Paolo Obregon and Timothy Fitchett.  Also close friends Terry Kirby of Williamsburg, Va. and Pat Connley , of Williamsburg, Va.
