Port Charlotte, Florida- James Schappe was born January 5, 1936, and passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019; his daughter Tia and son-in-law Jim at his side. He married Susan Schappe on December 26, 1959. Sue preceded Jim in death in February 2017. Jim enjoyed time with family, grandchildren, boating and fishing, real estate business, studying history, watching sports and listening to country music. He and Sue enjoyed the last 20 years living in Florida, where they "never got tired of that view", as well as shared numerous holiday and spring breaks with their kids and grandkids at the pool, beach and lanai for cocktails and dinner. He is survived by his son Jeff(Sheri Thompson), and daughter, Tia(Jim Embke); grandchildren, Alec Embke, Patrick Schappe, Holly Embke and Robert Schappe; siblings, Robert (Glory) Schappe and Rosemary (Patrick) Croft; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Anita Schappe; daughter, Cheri; brother, Bruce; sister-in-law, Karen Schappe; sister, Bernita and brother-in-law Bill Tralmer. A Celebration of Life for both Jim and Sue will be held this spring, with details at that time. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the care workers and volunteers at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veteran's Home and Tidewell Hospice for their boundless care and sentiment with Jim. Donations in Jim's memory can be sent to Tidewell Hospice.
