James's obituary

James Frederick Redmon, 94, of Trenary, MI passed away on July 22nd, 2021 after a strong battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Jim was born on March 22nd, 1927 to Steven & Gladys Redmon in South Bend, IN. He and his family moved to Kent County, MI where Jim co-operated a 60-acre grain and livestock farm with his father. The Redmon family were active members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

When Jim turned 18 years old, he enlisted in the Army to serve during World War II. While serving he specialized as a Neuropsychiatric Technician at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, CA.

James F. Redmon received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque. Jim was honorably discharged in November,1946.

In September, 1950 Jim and Joyce Hudson married in Van Buren County, MI. Together they had three children. After 7 years of marriage, they divorced.

Jim was a single dad raising his three children and working in carpentry when he met his forever love, Emily Burns Richmond and her four children.

Jim and Emily married on July 18th, 1964 and had two more daughters. Together they raised a total of 10 wonderful children. 

Jim spent his lifetime providing for his family. He worked in carpentry, truck driving, was an EMT in Van Buren County and ran an Adult Foster Care Home in Gobles with Emily. Jim and Emily loved to travel and lived in many places across the United States. They finally settled down for retirement on their property of 20+ years on Diffin Rd in Trenary, MI.

Jim had many talents and always kept busy even into his 90’s. He chopped his own firewood, went hunting and fishing, made his own maple syrup, loved to spend time with his sons playing a game of golf, always had a project he was building and would light a campfire whenever you asked him to. The list truly could go on and on. Jim was an amazing and dedicated man, always lending a hand to whomever was in need.

As a member of the Riverside Seventh Day Adventist Church he held office as Head Deacon, Sabbath School Superintendent and served as a member on the church board.

Jim is survived by his sister Joan Guinn, Tom (Vivienne) Redmon, Ben Redmon, his children Lorri Redmon, Cindy (Terry) Dickerson, Susan Redmon, Judy (Barry) McCreary, Vern (Linda) Richmond, Cathy (Chris) Whitney, Stephen (Betty) Jarchow. His 24 grandchildren Emi (Andy) Morrison, Jordan Ramos, Tristan Redmon, J.D. Dickerson, Zee Dickerson, Faith Dickerson, Grace (Tim) Jackson, Fritz (Stephanie) Tull, Amanda Larsen, Judy Shoffner, Jack (Lisa) Richmond, Joe Richmond, Anthony (Terri) Whitney, Matthew (Rachael) Whitney, Chrissy (Braden) Scott, D.J. (Cris) Richmond, Ronnie (Alicia) Richmond, Melissa (Mark) Hosking, Herbert Beardsley, Stephen Beardsley, Justin Richmond, Aaron (Brianna) Richmond, Emma (Dusty) Clayton, Jamie Jarchow, his 25 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Jim is proceeded in death by his wife Emily Redmon who passed away on February 4th, 2021, his sons James K. Redmon, Lawrence Richmond, and Dale Richmond, his parents Gladys and Steven Redmon and his siblings William Redmon, Robert Redmon, and Jayne Watson.

A memorial service will be held at the Gobles Seventh Day Adventist Church on Sunday August 8th, 2021 at 4pm. 

A graveside service for both Jim and Emily will be held in Munising, MI at a later date. 

Flowers can be sent to Gobles SDA Church for the service at 32146 6th Ave, Gobles, MI 49055, or the family is asking for charitable donations to be given to the Gobles Junior Academy. Donations in the name of Jim Redmon can be mailed directly to the academy at 32110 6th Ave, Gobles, MI 49055.
