James's obituary

James Patrick Fitzgerald Cooper was born in Springhill, Louisiana, on February 23, 1967, and welcomed as a beautiful blessing by his parents, Willie James Cooper and Eva Brewer Cooper.

He was baptized at an early age at the Evening Star CME Church in Cullen, Louisiana.

James, or Patrick, as his family knew him, spent his earliest years in Dallas, Texas, and Springhill, Louisiana. As his independence blossomed, Patrick commuted to Fair Park High School in Shreveport, Louisiana and this proud Fair Park Indian graduated in 1985. Following graduation, Patrick matriculated to Grambling State University, choosing to continue the “Black and Gold” Legacy of Excellence. A loyal Gramblinite until his death, Patrick majored in Psychology and generously poured back into the University’s athletic program.

On April 28, 1994, Patrick married Mia Carlette Brooks and that union welcomed two children. Jasmine Carlette Cooper was born on January 14, 1995, and grew into her father’s “mini-me.” On March 17, 1997, the couple welcomed their son, Evan Jamal Cooper who burst into this world on his terms and inherited his dad’s feisty spirit.

Patrick was a hard-working and dependable man who believed in working all of the overtime that was available, as his employers can attest to. He spent many years working on the line at Exide Technologies in Shreveport, Louisiana, before transitioning into the Trucking Industry. As an employee of Dupre Logistics for 15 years, Patrick traveled across the country, making his presence known to many before finding his forever work home in 2020 at Aeropres Corporation in Sibley, Louisiana. Patrick loved Aeropres and Aeropres loved him.

Patrick, or “Coop” to his friends, was the ultimate, die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan and was amazingly able to quote any statistic connected to the team or a player stretching back decades. He was also an avid Boston Celtics fan and would quickly educate you on that team’s proud legacy. As a passionate gamer, Patrick interacted virtually with people worldwide, and his presence will be missed in the gaming community.

This great son, incredible father, and loyal friend did not mind helping others, whether buying a meal for a hungry person or offering sage words of wisdom and tough love advice to a friend, acquaintance, or stranger. Patrick lived life in a “no holds barred” way, willing to speak truth to power, engage in a lively debate on many topics, and articulate his opinions and points of view unapologetically.

James Patrick Fitzgerald Cooper was preceded in death by his father, Wille James Cooper, maternal grandparents Mary Overdorf and Floyd Brewer, and great-grandparents George and Alice Ward.

To cherish the beautiful memories, he leaves his loving and devoted mother, Eva Brewer Cooper (Sarepta, LA); his loving children, Jasmine Carlette Cooper (Shreveport, LA) and Evan Jamal Cooper (Shreveport, LA); and many loyal and caring friends.
