Jim's obituary
March 17, 1942 – December 25, 2024
Dr. James “Jim” Myers, a man of boundless energy, charm, and generosity, passed away on December 25, 2024. Born in Morris, Illinois, on March 17, 1942, Jim lived a big, vibrant life filled with excitement and endless enthusiasm for new experiences.
Jim spent his formative years in Sault Ste. Marie before attending the University of Michigan, where he honed his intellect and fostered a lifelong passion for learning. A proud patriot, he served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran, exemplifying courage and steadfastness throughout his life.
After his military service, Jim dedicated 44 years to his career as a dentist in Olympia, Washington, effortlessly blending artistry with dentistry. But Jim was far more than a man of science; he was a creative visionary whose passions extended beyond the dental chair. Outside of his profession, he was a person with a thousand hobbies, spending his days on Medicine Creek Farm in the Nisqually Valley, pursuing his passions for farming, making wine, brewing beer, woodworking, sewing and baking—always striving to create, innovate, and share his talents with others.
Jim’s legacy lives on through his six children and wife, Liz Myers, whose partnership with Jim was filled with love, laughter, and a mutual appreciation for entertaining loved ones and savoring good food together. He was a grandfather to eleven grandchildren, always sharing endless stories and wisdom—he was a master storyteller, sparing no details.
Jim was the life of every party, known for his ability to turn ordinary gatherings into unforgettable celebrations. He had a gift for creating spaces where people felt seen, heard, and valued—spaces filled with laughter, warmth, and camaraderie.
His love of life, dedication to hard work, and belief in the power of connection will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Jim’s authenticity and genuine nature left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. As we say goodbye to Jim, we honor the incredible life he lived—a life of service, creativity, and boundless love. May his stories, his laughter, and his zest for life continue to inspire us all.
