James's obituary

James “Jim” Patrick Crossen

Age 74, entered his eternal rest in August 2025 at his home in Omaha, NE.

Born December of 1950 to Robert Shelly Crossen and Jeanne Therese (Moran)

Crossen, Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by:

his children James (Sarah) Crossen and Rebekah (Choan) Lim

their mother, Janice Crossen

his loving aunt, Patricia Moran

his siblings: John (Katherine Heatherly) Crossen, Kathleen (Bill) Schmidt,

Constance (Charlie) Kerber, Patrick (Erin) Crossen, Robert (Joan) Crossen, and

Christopher (Rose) Crossen

his cherished grandchildren: Jacob Crossen, Noah Crossen, and Robin Lim

and many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Jim graduated from the University of Illinois in 1973 and went on to earn his Juris

Doctor degree from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law (formerly John

Marshall Law School) in 1976. He built a distinguished career as a litigation specialist,

working for K&K; Insurance and Berkley Risk Administrators. Jim was known for his

professionalism, integrity, and ability to navigate even the most challenging claims.

He retired in 2014, though his days remained full with reading, walking, exercising,

reconnecting with old friends, and, most importantly, sharing the gospel with those he

met.

A man of deep Christian faith, Jim served actively in his church through Men’s Group,

Youth Ministry, conferences, Bible studies, and even the Spanish service ministry. His

faith was not just something he spoke about; it was something he lived.

Those who knew Jim will remember his love for stories — both telling them and

creating them in the lives of those he loved. At his daughter Rebekah’s wedding, he

penned a heartfelt and unique poem, and during the ceremony, he took her hand and

placed it firmly into Choan’s — a silent but powerful symbol of giving her away with

blessing.

He loved to read to his children when they were growing up, and when his first

grandson was learning to read, Jim patiently sat beside him, reading the same books

again and again, helping him sound out each word with encouragement and pride. As

a grandfather, he gave hugs so tight they lingered in memory, often reminding his

family how much he missed them. He expressed his heart most openly in letters and

messages, leaving behind words that will be treasured for years to come.

Jim was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, who followed baseball statistics with precision.

But beyond the stats and the games, he was a man who valued people — who could

light up a room with a story or a joke, who sought to make strangers feel like friends,

and who was remembered as a gentle and kind soul.

Above all, Jim loved his family fiercely. He prayed for them, spoke of them often, and

found joy in every moment spent together. His legacy of faith, kindness, and

perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
