Thinking of you today, Trina, and your family as you remember Jim.

I recall him saying that hanging out with Raul and I at Melissa's after a run of family events like birthdays and holidays had him thinking that was a bit too close for past and present, and: 'We need new friends!'  HAHA! Always appreciated his keen sense of humour and I think fondly of the times we spent together.

lots of love,

Janice

I still think about Jim often and have only good memories.
Wow so many memories. I first met Him at GD in Ottawa when he became my Manager. First thing he said to me was..so tell me a bit about yourself. I will always remember that because he cared. Work was important but he always took time to care about those he worked with. 15 years of my work life with him was too short. A great teacher, friend and a wonderful husband and dad. An honor to have had him in my life. Happy Birthday Jim. I will be raising a glass of milk for you.

Well today being Jim’s birthday. Pre-COVID we would be celebrating at Cherry Inn, and getting something off the lunch menu. Always had the craving for Chinese food. :)
To Trina and Family;
I first met Jim officially at Fernie Alpine Resort while skiing there. He immediately recognized me and said "Hey, I know you." After that, we were always talking skiing and continuously talked about the latest and greatest in ski gear. I might have even helped him in getting his boots to fit comfortably.

We had lots of laughs over the years while skiing or at work and had plans for the following season.

He was a great person and we'll miss him forever.

To Trina and the rest of Jim's family, my heart goes out to you during this time of grief. It is never easy to say goodbye to a loved one.
I remember working long days with Jim on the Bowman proposal at GD. He was a wonderful manager, he was always very respectful of everyone on the team.
Trina and family, I was so sorry to hear about Jim passing. He was such a kind soul with a wonderful sense of humour. He had such a positive impact on the GD business and the culture of the sites he worked at around the world where he helped bring teams together to work and deliver proposals. His dedication and commitment were exemplary but it was his kindness, caring nature and sense of humour that will be missed the most and not forgotten.

I was taking a coaching cours…
2007, Ottawa, ON, Canada
I was taking a coaching course in Ottawa, and ran into Jim & Trina in the Byward market. It was a wonderful warm June day, and we were all smiles.

To Trina and Family: I had the splendid fortune to work very closely with Jim over the past ten years; to share adventures, laugh and overcome many challenges together. He was kind, loyal, relentless and most of all, a deeply trusted friend. I see that Arnie has shared the "El Presidente" story from one of our several Rome proposal adventures, but you may not yet have heard of how he won the Brits over! A few years ago when I was working (struggling) to put together a big proposal for our sister company in the UK, I had the epiphany to ask him to come over and help. Fortunately for us all, he and you agreed and he came. At first many people were quite upset at the perceived intrusion of yet another Canadian. Of course we all know what happened next...within a very short time, through his kindness, authenticity and genuine commitment to both his work and the people around him, he became an appreciated, trusted and crucial team member. We went on to win that proposal and from that time on he was considered a local and frequently invited back!

I will be forever grateful for the time we had together and the important lessons on life perspective, balance, trust and love for his family he shared with me.

Below is a quote from Robert Louis Stevenson that I feel describes well the person Jim was. My deepest condolences to you. He was a remarkable man who made a profound difference in my life and is deeply missed.

"The man is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had." ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Trina and Family: I was shocked at the news of Jim's passing. He was a true gentleman - in the truest sense of the word. I will always remember Jim as a kind and friendly sole with a dry sense of humour. I remember several nights working late (or early mornings) with Jim on the Bowman proposal. I was very late meeting my delivery of the security volume to data management. Jim was checking on the status of when I could deliver it to him. I told him I needed one more day. He said, that was better than the other nine volume bosses who needed several more days. I asked him if we were going to meet the deadline and he said smiling and laughing, "Yes, it just means a few more all-nighters". He was always willing to help. He will be missed by you and your family but also by the whole extended GD family who Jim touched.

My condolences to Trina and Family. I'm very saddened of Jim's passing. I have known Jim since the Fall of 1991, the first time we've met was in a boardroom with other new employees in Ottawa. We all introduced each other and from then I knew Jim has great integrity. Jim offered me to ship my art table and art books with his belongings to Calgary 2 years later. I am very thankful and blessed that I've got to know him over the years, as to me a great team leader and caring friend. He was a beautiful soul. I would remember Jim as how he lived. God Bless You Jim.

To Trina and family - I wish …
2015, Rome, Italy
To Trina and family - I wish to express my deepest condolences on Jim's passing. It was with surprise and shock to learn that he will longer grace our lives with his calm, thorough and at times humourous approach to life. I appreciated his visits to my office from time to time to ask how I was doing. We were working on a proposal in Rome a few years back and on one evening went to dinner at a local restaurant where Jim took the seat at the head of the table. An entertainer jokingly dubbed Jim 'El Presidente' - a moniker which stuck with him well past that particular trip. It has been an honour and a pleasure to have known and worked with him.

My Grandpa Jim was so kind, generous and all he did was care about everyone else.

When I was talking to him, we always had such interesting and meaningful conversations- I also loved his jokes. Every question I ever asked, he had an answer for (sarcastic or not) I miss him so much and I am truly, so sorry for my Grandma Trina, Uncle Ryan, Ben and Hayley, and anyone else close to him.

Dear Trina and Family,
So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I knew Jim from his daily visits to my desk at GD. He often stopped to chat for a few minutes and enjoy a candy from the dish on my desk - just one he always noted! He talked often of spending time with his grandchildren and skiing. He was very much a family man. His essence will live on in the hearts of all who had the honour of knowing him.

I was new into the family, and just married Jason not too long ago. I remember being at Grandpa and Grandma Manning's beautiful castle home. I was coming down the stairs and Uncle Jim was coming up. He got real close to me, looked me straight in the eyes, (which can be very intimidating to someone who is not used to that, also he is very tall and I am very short) he told me that I was a "very sweet girl with a good heart and that Jason and I were lucky to have found each other." I asked him how he could tell, and he just kind of smirked at me and said "I just know." That is how I remember Uncle Jim always telling you things you may not see in yourself, but not afraid to tell you. I never saw him angry or mad about anything he always had a peaceful nature about him and he was quiet, patient and kind. I loved how he was lovey dovey with Auntie Trina everywhere wether it was just out into town holding hands or at their house sitting together with Uncle Jim in the Chair and Auntie Trina on the arm of the chair but holding each other. If you a truly lucky in this life you find your soulmate the person you are meant to be with your equal in everyway, the person who can drive you crazy, but at the same time you couldn't live without they make you whole and fill your heart with Soo much happiness that it is hard to explain to others just how much one person can mean to you. Loosing a loved one on Earth is truly one of the hardest things to ever have to go through. I'm so sorry for your loss Auntie Trina, Melissa, Sean, Mya, and to the rest of family Uncle Jim will be missed, until we meet again.
