Jim's obituary
James "Jim" Brandt, born September 21, 1944, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025. Fondly known and remembered as Jim, he was a devoted family man and is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Brandt, whom he married in 1969.
Journeying from fatherhood to grandfatherhood with grace, Jim is remembered by his children Pamela Brandt Simpson, Mark Brandt, David Brandt, their respective spouses Peter Simpson, Valerie Brandt, and Kim Brandt. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Aidan Simpson, Gretchen Brandt, Tara Simpson, Naomi Brandt, Isabel Brandt, and Benjamin Brandt.
Jim's brother H. David Brandt, sister-in-law Melva Brandt, sister-in-law Pamela Anderson and brother-in-law Byron Anderson will miss his warm presence. Jim was predeceased by his father, Henry Brandt and his mother, Helena Janz Brandt.
Jim's life was a journey that took him to many places. In 1974, he moved to the beautiful island of Vieques, Puerto Rico to work with Calvary Evangelistic Mission. Then in 1982, he relocated to Palm Harbor, FL followed by a move to Mountain Lake, MN in 1986 where he pastored at the Evangelical Mennonite Bretheren Church, and later taught ESL and Math at the Mountain Lake Public School as a Math teacher. He retired to Pella, IA in 2013.
Apart from being a dedicated family man, Jim was a gifted math teacher and Evangelical minister. His dedication to spreading God's love to all he met was exemplary. He spent his later years volunteering at International Messengers, serving others selflessly.
Jim's impact was profound and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched. As an educator, minister, and volunteer, he exemplified a life lived in service to others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
