Irene Baird left a legacy of her faith, sense of fairness and social justice here in Delaware County through her role as a founding Executive Director of Family Promise. On behalf of many, I share a deep sense of gratitude for this loving imprint. Persons experiencing homelessness and this Community as a whole continue to be transformed.

Irene was a special person who brought so much life and love into our family! She is deeply missed! The obituary is so beautifully written and captures her spirit so very well. Her loving and mischievous twinkle and laugh defined so many family get togetherS and celebrations where Irene was there, John and John, Jr. please know she loved you both so very much. Irene and I met through baseball and St. Mary’s. She was a devout Catholic and devoted wife and mother. Not long after she became director , Irene recruited me for the board. I have many memories with her and our social worker Lee Hayes who passed away while serving. I think those two are having some laughs in heaven together. I said when Irene met our Creator, he said” well done my faithful servant.” She was a light for many. Her smile genuine. It was difficult when she said she was moving to Houston. Thanks for sharing her with us and may the peace of Christ be with you!
