Penni's obituary

Independence “Penni” Padgett, 59, passed away on Wednesday, March 30th, of natural causes. The daughter of Eddie Crawford and Priscilla Simpkins, Penni was lovingly adopted by her predeceased grandparents, Woodrow Padgett, Sr. and Helen Baylor Padgett and raised in Coalwood, WV. She attended Marshall University, where she studied Elementary Education. She spent much of her adulthood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she raised her two sons. Later in life, Penni returned to her native West Virginia, working for the Council of the Southern Mountains and other nonprofit organizations to secure grant funding for affordable housing developments. 

Ms. Padgett is survived by her two sons, Matthew Klinestiver of Bangkok, Thailand and Alex Klinestiver of Pittsburgh, PA and; six siblings, Wilma Alston, Woodrow Padgett, Jr., Robert Padgett, Reginald Padgett, Janice McClure, Ronald Padgett and predeceased by her brother, Henry L. Padgett, and her sister, Evelyn Padgett-Niles. True to her name, Indenpedence was a free-spirited and strong-willed person, who made an immediate impression on all those she met.
