Hilda's obituary

Hilda Esther (Tamez) Schryver, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at her home in Bloomington, Minnesota. Hilda was born on March 27, 1947, to Herminia (Del Prado) and Leonardo Tamez in Falls City, Texas. She attended Runge High School and graduated in 1965. Hilda went on to work as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in San Antonio, Texas. Hilda married Timothy Lane Schryver on July 26, 1969, and they were married for 56 years. They moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Hilda worked as a telephone operator and in Public Relations for Northwestern Bell, as a director for Mary Kay Cosmetics, as a Customer Service Representative at Raven Industries, and as Founder of Schryver Enterprises, specializing in customer service training.

Hilda enjoyed a variety of activities throughout her life. She was fluent in Spanish and was very proud of her culture and heritage. Hilda enjoyed learning and expanding her knowledge, and she earned an Associate's degree from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri. She also enjoyed reading, modeling, knitting, painting, swimming, dancing in Sioux Falls Feathers and Follies, singing in the church choir, and playing her clarinet with the Normandale Community College Band and the Richfield Symphonic Band. Hilda was an avid lover of Christmas and looked forward to it each year. She took pride in her Christmas bear collection and ceramic clowns.

Hilda believed in kindness and manners. She shared this love with children through her character, Ms. Hilda, and her book, Ms. Hilda’s Adventure Into The World Of Manners.

Hilda is survived by her husband, Timothy Lane Schryver; her son, Robbie Lane Schryver and wife Tamara Jo (Stoebner) Schryver; grandchildren, Gianna Schryver and Ashenafi Schryver; sisters, Gloria (Tamez) Sanchez and Linda (Tamez) Landin; brothers Leonardo Tamez, Junior and Fermin Tamez; mother-in-law, Irene Schryver; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herminia (Del Prado) and Leonardo Tamez.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest United Methodist Church at 9100 Russell Avenue South, Bloomington, MN 55431. A celebration luncheon will be provided following the service.
