Herbert's obituary
Herbert Nachman, 93 , of Townsend, TN passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his side on March 28, 2024.
Herbert was born on August 25, 1930 in Augusta, GA. He attended Richmond Academy and received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He was very active in student publications and his fraternity. Herb served in the Korean War as 2nd Lieutenant and was a retired Major in the Air Force Reserves.
His early career years were in printing and advertising in New York City. He later worked as a health care communication specialist serving multiple national pharmaceutical companies with their needs.
Herb retired to Townsend, TN in 2000. He was prominent in community service including Meals on Wheels, advising small companies with business plans for SCORE of Knoxville , was a docent at the Heritage Center in Townsend, and a member of BCCAC- Blount County Community Action Committee. He was active in the Unitarian Movement his entire life serving in many leadership positions in various churches. Herb was a founding member of Foothills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
Herb lived an active life and enjoyed skiing, tennis, exercising in the gym, and travel. Herb’s favorite hobby was cooking. He regularly baked homemade bread and pizza dough. He especially enjoyed making gourmet meals, along with his wife Mary, for friends and family.
Herb will be remembered forever by his wife, children, and grandchildren as being loving, kind, humorous, and nurturing.
Herb was preceded in death by daughter Katherine Nachman, son David Nachman [Martha]. Herb is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Mary Nachman, daughters Serene White [Jai] and Claire Brooks [Wade], grandchildren Kiera Nachman- Kent [Troy], Billy Nachman [Julie], Victoria Nachman-Pearson [Dylan], Sydney Flax and four great grand children.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 21st , 2pm Chilhowee Club in Maryville
