We celebrated Mommy today by presenting gifts and crafts the kids made for her and placing them by her urn, by taking Marty and Fries to her favorite dog park and counting the German Shepherds, and also by visiting her happy place (Target — which was Sophie’s idea). We shared more “Mommy Memories” today, which the kids love doing every chance they get and are always eager to have documented in an ongoing list we’re keeping together. We always love reminiscing on all the many ways she made us laugh, and all the silly and hilarious stories we have of her and our family having fun together. The kids are so good at remembering how wonderful she was as a mom, and how she was always ten steps ahead ensuring all of our family’s needs and wants were taken care of — that we were all perfectly happy and so loved. Happy Mother’s Day to the most wonderful Mommy. You are so missed every day. We love you.

Enjoying the lake on Papa’s boat. We took this excursion during the height of the pandemic, when we were constantly eager to find adventure and entertainment away from the general public. Reflecting back on the pandemic, as stressful as it was, I’m forever grateful for all the close family time it granted us.

Haruno and my Grandpa Lou, who passed away seven years ago. He’s showing off the board game he created, “Link-A-Letter”, after having Haruno test it out (and being so proud that she loved it). These two really took to each other and I loved witnessing Grandpa’s excitement to get to know her and share all his creations with her. I’ll always be grateful they were able to meet and form a special relationship.

Gaming buddies 🎮 This was during Ollie’s car loving phase, so he was very excited when we showed him Mario Kart (playing here with a motion sensing steering wheel). Haruno’s favorite game from her childhood was Donkey Kong Country (she was pretty darn good at it too), and I remember her being excited to play that with the kids as well.

Haruno was so excited to randomly encounter this Irish Wolfhound (and informed me that they’re the tallest of all dog breeds) in a small Colorado gift shop. We were visiting her close friends/Ladies of the Letter, Julia and Katie, for New Year’s Eve, and we all had such a wonderful time

A few years ago we discovered I have an egg intolerance. Haruno, being very familiar with my chocolate chip cookie obsession, immediately began to experiment with egg-free cookie recipes as a result. It didn’t take long for her to perfect a recipe that erased my fears of no longer being able to enjoy delicious cookies, and afterwards she loved baking them for me and the kids all the time. Her recipe can be found here, in her own writing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/thn… This week I decided to try baking them myself (seen above), and it's the first time I've ever baked anything from scratch / without using store-bought cookie dough. It felt nice to carry forward something she loved, and something that was one of the many ways she showed her love for me and the kids. I hope to continue to bake in her honor and try more complicated recipes in the future. I'd love for anyone who has time to try Haruno's delicious egg-free cookie recipe and to think of her while baking them. I know it would make her happy to pass on a little joy through these cookies.

I remember the first time I met Haruno. It was my working interview with Augusta Ranch Animal Hospital and during down time she was quizing all of us about triage and emergencies- obviously quizing my skills- and I still remember it all today. Her family had asked what it was like working with Haruno, and every picture you have shared explains it. I remember working with her while she was pregnant with Ollie, I remember her love for Emma and Dug, I remember the day she took Marty in,  and will always remember her laugh and smile. I miss her, and I'm beyond honored that I was able to be with her and her family.
