Chip's obituary
On 11/24/2021 Harry “Chip” George Warner went to be with our Lord and Savior at the age of 74 after battling cancer since 2020. He learned he had cancer February 2020, but waited until April 2020 to let his kids and siblings know. Chip didn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him and even during times when he was in immense pain, he was thinking of others.
Chip was born 9/18/1947 in Denver, Colorado to Glen and Winifred Warner. He graduated in 1966 at Grand Junction High School where he excelled at sports such as track, wrestling (wrastling if you hear him say it), and football. He went to Mesa College before joining the Navy in 1968. He received his master’s degree, Magnum Cum Laude at Pepperdine University while he was working his way up through the ranks in the Navy and he retired from the Navy as Commander in 1992. After retiring he worked in the civilian world until retiring from Sears in 2018. He lived in Colorado, California, Iceland, Iowa, Florida and Michigan and settled in Texas after marrying Maria.
Chip was so funny and goofy, wanting to make sure everyone felt at home, in his home. He was the best host, making sure people were fed and felt welcome.
Chip had a passion for wood-working and when he retired he made tons of wood boxes, the infamous Hasselback Potato product (he even made a video providing instructions on how to use this useful kitchen gadget), cutting boards and many other items. He gave these items as gifts to his loved ones and the last couple of years of his life, he made items to give to doctors and other people who showed kindness to him after he was diagnosed with cancer.
He loved to cook. He watched cooking shows and he seemed to own every cooking and electronic gadget around. Chip was known for his generosity and always insisted on giving cash to people who worked hard. He was hard-working and instilled those same values to his family. He loved to vacation in Colorado and had hoped to have one last big family gathering before he passed away. We would like to honor him in Colorado, wishing he could be with us but grateful for the time we had with him on earth.
March 22, 2021 he gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized by Roger Ferguson May 30, 2021. While we will miss him immensely and we think about him daily, we know that we will see him again and that’s the hope we have in Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Glen and mom, Winifred as well as his loyal dog, Chance.
He is survived by his wife Maria (married August 2002), his four children Candace McMeans (spouse Steve), Michael Warner, Thomas Warner (spouse Stephanie) and Tammy Warner, granddaughter Hailey, two sisters Anna Gummere and Mary Ferguson (spouse Roger) and several nieces and nephews as well as his two step daughters Jennifer Black and Stefanie Black. He was married to Sandi from 1968-1983 and was married to Sue from 1983-1991
