Harry's obituary
Bishop Harry Melvin Myers (87) of Richmond, Virginia embarked on his final journey to be with the Lord on Monday, August 30, 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio on September 3, 1933 to Harry Byron Myers and Leah Louise Myers, Brother Harry first got called to the service of his country during the Korean War and served faithfully in the army until 1953. In the years that followed, he fell in love with his bride of 61 years and began his 40 year career with Columbia Gas Company. During this time, he also found his true calling in the service of His Almighty Father. Ordained in 1972, Brother Myers humbly and faithfully served as a minister, pastor, and servant of the Lord. Throughout his 17 years at the Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith (Columbus, Ohio), and 22 years at the Abundant Life Tabernacle (Amelia, Virginia), he performed countless baptisms and marriages, presided over many funerals, preached at hundreds of revivals and conferences and bore witness to dozens of miracles. He preached his sermons with an understated reverence that was both powerful in its message and deeply spiritual in its delivery. Whether spreading the gospel to a packed revival or a small sanctuary, his passion for the Lord rang true in every word he spoke. His devotion to his faith overflowed into his family, and the love he had for his children was unparalleled. His wife, Helen- his everlasting and loving companion. His children, Debbie and Josh- the light of his life. His grandchildren, Dalesha, Danyel, and Danny- the twinkle of his eye. His great-grandchildren, Jacob, Emmalyn, and Zara- the sweetest blessings. Harry never knew a stranger, had a unique sense of humor and a generous heart and always had a kind word for every person he met. He had a true love for the game of golf, and in his retirement owned a specialty golf shop where he loved working with his hands and fitting custom made clubs.
Harry is survived by his bride of 61 years, Helen Myers; his children Debbie Criner and Josh Myers; Dan Criner; grandchildren Dalesha (Ben) Bowman, Danyel (Katie) Yates, and Danny (Kayla) Criner; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Emmalyn and Zara; brother Ronald Myers; sister Jean Myers; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his extended church family. He is preceded in death by his parents- Harry and Leah Myers; sisters Audrey “Dede” and Barbara Myers; brothers Owen, Edward and Paul “Buff” Myers.
