One of the many moments that captures who Jayare was happened on a family canoe trip years ago, when our families—including my dad—were paddling down an alligator-filled Florida canal, deep in the swamp. We were all laughing and messing around when the boys accidentally T-boned Lydia and Jayare’s canoe and flipped it completely over.
Lydia found herself in the water, suddenly terrified, especially when she felt a something slither glide beneath her feet. Without hesitation, Jayare (w a tiny help from my dad) flipped the canoe back upright, dumped the water out, and Jayare scooped Lydia up and put her right back inside. In the middle of chaos and fear, he was calm, strong, and completely focused on her—making sure she was safe before anything else mattered.
It was a moment full of laughter afterward, but it said everything about him. Jayare was always a protector, a steady presence, and above all, devoted to Lydia, and his entire family. Even in the swamp, even surrounded by danger, he led with love.

I'M SOOOO SORRY for the loss of "Dad". He was the strongest man I've known, and I wish I had gotten to give him a real bear hug before he took off to Heaven. I know my dad was up there welcoming him Home and I just look forward to the day that I get to see them again. I'm going to really miss his love, laugh, and strength. He is the epitome of a PATRIARCH - and even in his weakest moments, he was still trying to hold everyone else up. What a true hero Jayare has always been... I love all of you Proffitts . You're my family, too. 💛🩷
