2 Timothy 4:7-8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Our beloved Gwen Kwan Yee Shen, wife to Jackie Shen and mother to Caleb Shen, entered into God’s Kingdom on September 30, 2024.

Gwen was born to LinTang and Sau Fun Auyeung on July 14, 1959 in Hong Kong. When Gwen was in her teens, she received Jesus as her personal Savior and Lord and to live for Jesus became the goal to achieve in her life. She was baptized to join the Honolulu Chinese Alliance Church (HCAC), and was nurtured and trained to serve in ministries during those early days.

Gwen finished her undergraduate degree from the University of Hawaii and achieved her Master of Religious Education from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She returned to Hong Kong to take up the responsibilities as the Director of the Training Center in the Hong Kong Youth for Christ where full time ministry workers for the youth were being trained and equipped.

Gwen met her first love Jackie at the HCAC in 1979. They were married in Chicago in 1986 and the couple returned to Honolulu soon after getting married. Together they served as Advisors in the college fellowship of HCAC for many years. Gwen was on church staff as the Chrisitan Education Director for multiple years under various church leadership. She later started up the HomeBase Family Resources Center, a Christian bookstore business and ministry providing Christian educational resources and Bibles for the children and the youth. It was also the only Chinese Christian bookstore in Hawaii, meeting the needs of local churches and the Chinese speaking community.

She loved to spend time in God’s temple and do His work. Besides being the Sunday School Superintendent, she was Advisor to the Eternal Life Fellowship for the elderly members and the core member of the Sister’s Fellowship leadership team for many years. In 1991, Caleb was born, a true gift and blessing from God. Gwen never ceased to serve the Lord and His people, always loved her family, and lived her life fully as a testimony of God’s mercy and love.

Gwen joins her parents in Heaven. and is survived by many loving family members, including Jackie and Caleb (husband and son), and her siblings, Gilbert, Cindy, Wanda and Jenny.
