Gwen's obituary
Gwen was born in Fairfax, Virginia. She lived in Virginia, California, Maryland, Michigan, Morocco, Japan, The Philippines and Italy. She also traveled to many locations overseas for work.
After her Southfield High School 1977 graduation, she began her 40-year career with the US Government in Virginia and ended that career with many commendations. Gwen was widely respected for her skills, devotion and knowledge and was awarded the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Exceptional Civilian Service Medal for her contributions. Gwen was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she later became a Mormon missionary to Rome, Italy and became fluent in Italian. While abroad, Gwen graduated from John Cabot University. (Cum Laude)
Gwen was a member of the LDS Kingstowne Ward in Alexandria, Virginia where she taught Primary children for 10 years. Gwen was Sister Field to so many children who loved and enjoyed Gwen’s classes.
In July of 2021 Gwen moved to Shelby Township, Michigan to address her health issues with family close. Gwen was a member of the Sterling Heights Ward of LDS and also taught the Primary children when her health allowed. She quickly made friends and was able to enjoy new families. Both LDS communities were so loving and accepting 0f Gwen.
Gwen is survived by her mother Elizabeth Oakes, father CDR Blake E. Field, USN Ret. and wife Julie, sister, Vicki Mayfield, brother Blake “Skip” H. Field II, sisters Christina/Brian Vinson and Alicia/Derek Glassman, beloved friends Justin/Diana McCune, and too many dear friends, neighbors and colleagues to list that ministered to Gwen. Aunt Gwen was loved by nephews/nieces Garrett, Anthony, Blake, Sophie, Beckett, Delaney, Leighton, Avery and Braxton. Gwen was a mom to every cat she ever encountered.
