Gord was was far more than a principal or boss. He was a mentor, a leader, an inspiration, an example, and such a positive example of a follower of Jesus and a student of the Word. His pastoral heart at CRCS shaped the staff, and school community in Campbell River. His legacy continues on in daily staff devotions, worship, and prayer. I think fondly of his time at CRCS and his influence on my life.

Mr. Wickens was an incredible principal. I was so young at the time, but I remember how great the school was under his guidance, and saying that now I realize that under his guidance it was truly under the Lord’s guidance, as he never did anything without consulting his Saviour. I remember feeling so safe and secure around him and Betty. I remember feeling genuinely cared for and loved by them. I remember their joy and the staff’s joy. I remember smiling frequently and peering over the edge of the front desk whenever I passed by. I remember saying “hi” to Betty and looking for Mr. Wickens whenever our class passed by so I could greet and smile at both of them. My life has been greatly enriched by their presence in it.

I can recall the importance of memorizing scripture and how fun it was made to be. I remember the faculty doing their best to be a united support for the kids. I loved attending CRCS and felt like it was home. I believe this was because of the leadership in the school. Mr. Wickens left a beautiful and inspiring legacy in that building and in the lives of all those who attended there.

I’m sincerely grateful for both of you Betty, and for the family that you raised that would also have major influential impacts on my life. Thank you for the hug that we shared on Saturday. I love you and cherish your presence in my life. May God envelop you in His incredible peace everyday. Praise the Lord!

Love always, Jenny (Kaardal) Johnson. ♥️

We will be praying for your families in the days and weeks ahead. We are so sorry for your loss...he will be greatly missed. I remember Uncle Gordie as a godly man whose life reflected His Savior. He was kind, gentle, and always seemed to have a smile on his face. His example is living on through the legacy of his children and grandchildren. Sorry we can’t be there... praying for you all.

I clicked on the wrong key and my message sent before I was finished. (Wayne would say that could only happen to me).
We join with his family and other friends to bid farewell to Gordon, whose memory will always bring warm thoughts and a smile because of the person he was.

With Our Love, Judy and Wayne Lee

Dear Betty and Family:
Wayne and I send our deep condolences on Gordon's death as we remember him from our days at Berean Bible College and Fundamental Baptist Church in Edmonton. We were all born in the same year, and graduated together in 1963.
It is no small thing to condense what you know of someone in a few words - and do them justice at the same time. We knew him as a young man who took his studies at Berean seriously. He was considerate and kind. His desire was to use his musical talents and speaking abilities to introduce others to the love of God.
Then there was the side of Gordon who never missed a thing; who was ready to see irony and humour in any situation and to respond with his brilliant smile and an observant, witty comment.
My Dad was my biggest fan! I could do no wrong in his eyes. He supported me in all I did. He taught me to love and serve God with all my heart. He showed me. by example, how meeting with God daily was important, as was reading His Word (the Bible) to get to know Him better. I am blessed with the legacy he has left me and my children. He will never be forgotten! I love you Dad❤️ I am glad you are where you always wanted to be, with your Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
Even 25+ years later I still can't read or hear 1 Thessalonians 1 without hearing Gordon Wickens voice in my head. He tried to get us students more interested in memorizing scripture by teaching it to us as a rap... well I've never forgotten that passage! He gave me such a love for Gods word ( especially Revelation!) and I was so honored to have him officiate my wedding. It's been quite a number of years since I've seen him but he will always have a special place in my heart as such a godly, patient and humble man. I pray for all of the Wickens and extended family as you mourn the loss of this great presence. Maranatha, Gordon.

So very sorry for your loss. He was a man of great faith. I always enjoyed the sleepovers and camping with your family when you lived in Langdon, AB. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Darlene Phalen(Wenstrom)

Grandpa genuinely cared deeply for people, he could make a perfect stranger feel like a close friend. He taught me what it was to be a true Christian. He was a mentor and an Exemplary Man of God, without him I wouldn't be the same today. He leaves behind a great legacy! I know that when he enters through heavens gates that Jesus will meet him and say "Well done thy good and faithful servant". He would always say no matter what the situation, "Praise the Lord" or "That's the favour of the Lord" He always gave glory to God no matter what! Love you Grandpa, you will live in my heart forever!

Hi Betty,
We are sorry for your loss. We remember Gordon as our Principal at Aldergrove Christmas Academy. My 6 kids attended there and loved him as a Principal. He was very kind, compassionate, loving, patient and encouraging and loved bringing out the best in his students. I know of this first hand, because I saw it in my kids.

Our condolences to you and your family. May you feel the presence of the Lord during this difficult time.

Sincerely yours

Mike & Carolina Alexander
