Gladys's obituary
Born near Granger WA, Gladys graduated from Sunnyside High School then attended Washington State College in Pullman. While working in Spokane, Gladys met Skip Rex when he was serving at Fairchild Air Force Base. They were married June 6th, 1954 and later that year relocated to Mulberry, IN where they raised their family before moving to Lafayette, IN in 1980.
Over the years, Gladys was a housewife and mother, worked for Mulberry Public Service Co., was Bookkeeper for Rex Oil Company, a Cook at Clinton Prairie Jr/Sr High School cafeteria, was Office Manager of J.C.Penney Custom Decorating then, co-owned and operated Draperies LTD until retiring in 1994. Gladys participated in square dancing, scouting, Mulberry Mothers' Club, CP Band Boosters and was a United Methodist Church member. She was involved in Jay and Judy's activities and enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping, mushroom hunting and traveling throughout the US visiting most of the states, Canada and Mexico. During their early retirement years, Gladys and Skip were full-time RV travelers and snowbirds of the Orlando, FL area where they both worked at Walt Disney World. More recently, they became full-time Florida residents living at Outdoor Resorts of Orlando where Gladys was Co-Chairperson of the Coffee Committee. Gladys enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, bingo, jigsaw puzzles, watching game shows and college sports on TV as an avid Purdue Boilermaker Fan.
Gladys is survived by Husband, Skip of Clermont, FL; Daughter, Judy Bower (Jim) of Lafayette, IN; Son, Jay Rex (Judy) of Coalinga, CA; Grandchildren, Britni (Rex) Preston (Chris) of Big Pine Key, FL; Jordan Bower (Tember) of Clermont, Fl; Adam Rex (Evon) of Laura, OH; Jamison Bower (Alyssa) of Madison, IN and Jacob Bower (Hayley Jacobs) of Westfield, IN; Great Grandchildren, Gavin Rex, Haven Bower, Tanner Preston, Sullivan Bower, Rex Bower and Niece, Deb Liska, who became part of the immediate family while attending Purdue. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Elizabeth Monroe, four older sisters and four older brothers. Now, Gladys has joined them, extended family members and many close friends with our heavenly Father.
