Gertrudes Lopez Gomez, a loving mother and grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep on March 13, 2024 at the age of 84. Born on November 15, 1939 in Los Fresnos, Texas to Guadalupe Lopez and Francisco Lopez, Gertrudes was one of six children. Her siblings included Amelia Dominguez (deceased), Nestor Lopez, Higinia Tellez (deceased), Jesse Lopez, and Maria Lopez (deceased). On November 18, 1963, she married Paulino Gomez and moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1967. Gertrudes had eight children including Juan Bernal, Armando Bernal, Eraclio Bernal, Soledad Bernal (deceased), Esmeralda Gomez, Maria I. G. Carpeña, Alfredo Gomez, and Arnold Gomez (deceased). She had 26 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren.

Gertrudes was known as a determined, hard-working woman who devoted her life to her children as a homemaker. Giving up when times were hard was never an option for her. She did everything she could to create a loving home for her family. She had many friends and was known as a friendly, honest, and heartwarming person to everyone she met. She was talented at sewing and she adored her little puppy, Muñeca.

A funeral service will be held in her honor on March 20, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Las Avenidas Funeral Chapel located at 522 E Western Ave, Avondale, AZ 85323. She will be laid to rest in Raymondsville, Texas.
