Andrew was such a great, witty and forever friend. I will remember him fondly for his intelligence, passion and kindness. Even in the midst of his severe illness he constantly checked up on me during my health struggles. What a genuinely great guy with a huge heart full of love, care and joy. I miss you my friend and praying for your family and friends who loved you so much! Your pal Lee-Ann

I was devastated when I heard of Andrew's passing. While I had not spoken to Andrew regularly since moving home to Ohio, he checked in on big days like birthdays and when my dog, Nora, passed. He loved my dog like his own while we lived together, gladly going on long walks and hikes with us. We took care of each other with a lot of kindness and love during some really tough times in our lives. Andrew was always your biggest cheerleader, the first to offer help or a laugh.

Andrew loved Nora so much and didn't mind when she repeatedly stole his favorite Steelers blanket.

Best karaoke duet partner. Best guitar harmonizer, best guy I knew. Thinking about music today a lot and singing with you, playing guitar in my basement and drums while you sang along to the karaoke on YouTube. So many fun musical memories.

I miss Andrew more than words can say. He was always there with a kind word, to check up on me just to see how my day was going to go, or to see the newest comic book movie or horror movie, or to talk about the newest nerdy TV show that we were both obsessed. We would both talk about our music obsessions and go to concerts together. We went to see Metallica recently and he was so excited, the tickets had come to me through work and I knew right away that he was the one that I wanted to take because I knew he loved the band and we got there and it was rainy and the stadium was packed and just he sang with his full heart and had such a huge smile on his face and had such a great time and that’s why I loved going to shows with him. He had such an amazing time and always had the biggest smile on his face. He was my biggest supporter when I was thinking about leaving teaching and looking for something else, I always knew I could call him and vent my frustrations and go to him for advice or even just a laugh or good perspective. He was an amazing friend, I miss you Drew. 🩷

December 26, 2018 Andrew had a large lump that had appeared suddenly and seemed to be growing rapidly on his thyroid biopsied at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. December 28, 2018 the biopsy results came back positive for papillary thyroid cancer. Andrew then had an excruciating 13 hour surgery on February 1, 2019 where they removed his thyroid and 86 lymph nodes. 14 of the nodes were positive for cancer.

I miss you so much, Andrew. I know you’re watching over us, but it’s hard. You were the first person I reached out to when I was sad, the first person to reach out to me when I was sad. Every day I’m so honored to have had you in my life. Every memory I have is definitely a gift because every memory is an overwhelmingly positive one. You were like a brother I always wanted. Every day forward now for me will contain a moment or twenty million when I think about you and smile. Thank you for being my dearest friend.

I don't make many friends and when I moved out here in 2024 I had even fewer. Andrew took the time to reach out and keep me around and invite me to his parties. He introduced me to amazing people, restaurants, and places. We marched together for human rights in Washington DC. He was passionate about justice and looked out for other's wellbeing. Andrew was the first person I reached out to when something wild was going on in the world and he always had a decisive take on it. The world is a lonelier place and I miss him terribly.
