I didn’t meet my brother-in-law until 2 years after marrying into the family by way of marriage to Deb’s brother, Jim. When we moved to the federal Alcan border station in remote Alaska, I was 7 months pregnant and 450 miles from Anchorage where I would deliver my baby girl. Gary and Deb gave me a place to stay without hesitation. We later all ended up in Bend, Oregon, where our family relationship grew more. Gary and Deb became friends and family on a new level. Deb became my sister in Christ, as well. Years later Gary gave his heart to the Lord, and he became my brother in Christ. And what a changed man he became! Gary was already a man who served others in family, scouts and OYA, but his service now included God, which took it to a higher level. The last time I was able to see Gary, he was more than a couple years into his health journey. In the difficulty of his deteriorating health, his gentle heart reached out to me dealing with my own difficulties. It was exactly like Jesus, reaching out to console me without thought of his own trials and tribulations. We will see each other again on the streets of Heaven, and what a rejoicing it will be. My heart is with you, dearest Sis, Deb. Treasure your memories - one day we will see each other in the presence of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus. God will carry you until that time.

May God comfort you in your grief, which is shared today by so many. Gary was an extraordinary good and true friend of mine since we were cub scouts together some sixty years ago. He lived up to the Scout Law every day, and never forgot to "Be Prepared". He will be remembered fondly. David Baranow, Atty. at Law.
