Floyd's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Floyd Haff on December 4, 2025. Floyd was born on August 23, 1937, in Tyrone, New York. His primary residence was in Davenport, Florida.
Floyd earned a New York State Regents Diploma at Dundee Central School, and he graduated from the Agricultural College at Cornell University, earning a B.S. and a M.S. degree.
At Cornell he became a member of Ho Nun De Kah, the honorary society of the Agriculture College. As a member of the residence facility known as Cayuga Lodge, which housed 28 Cornell student members, he served as Income Treasurer and House Manager. He also served as the Lodge’s de facto barber and cut most of the members’ hair.
After teaching and counseling at Lisbon Central School and Avoca Central School, he was accepted for advanced study at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois and earned an Advanced Certificate in Counseling and Guidance. (The Permanent Counseling and Guidance Certificate in the state of Illinois). As a result of coursework earned at University of Illinois, he was able to enroll at St. Bonaventure University to complete requirements for a New York State School Psychology Certificate.
After working for a year in a Cooperative Board joint position with Warsaw Central School and Letchworth Central School, both high schools offered him a full-time role. He accepted a full-time position at Letchworth, where he worked initially as a counselor and then as both a counselor and the school psychologist up until his retirement in 1993.
Floyd provided college funds to his children and then to his eight grandchildren. He also established and funded a Haff Family Scholarship at Letchworth Central High School. He coached Little League and Pony League baseball, and served on the Board of Visitors for the psychiatric centers located in Sonyea, New York and Elmira, New York. He spent 1966 through 1993 farming at the family farm in Bliss, New York and continued to regularly visit New York State after purchasing a home in Davenport, Florida in 2002.
In the twenty plus years he lived in Florida, he had a fulfilling retirement where he was extremely involved with the community. He volunteered at the local Lions Club and sang in the choir at the High Vista development in Davenport, where he was also a member of the CAP patrol. He participated and often medaled in the Senior Games held in Polk County, Florida. Outside of his community involvement, Floyd enjoyed playing games, specifically euchre, pinochle, shuffleboard and bocce ball. He also loved watching western movies and football games, especially when the Buffalo Bills played.
Floyd is survived by: wife Geraldine and children Floyd III, Melody (Dennis) Eble, Jeffery (Carol) Haff, Bethany (Michael) Graves and Eric Haff. He cherished his loving grandchildren: Christopher, Kelly, Alexandra, Ryan, Steven, Sophia, Erica and Darby, and his great-grandchildren: Raegan, Bridgette and Charlie. Also survived by siblings: Richard (Nadine) Haff, Jane (Paul) Herger and Robert (Joan) Haff. Proceeded in death by parents Mary (Skorusa) Haff, father Floyd Haff, brother Howard Haff and brother Carl (Kathleen) Haff.
We will greatly miss Floyd, who was a loving Husband, Dad, Grandfather, and Friend, but we are happy he is in a peaceful place.
