Always having a open ear, offering encouragement and suggestions. Quite dynamic conversation- she was amazing and I truly miss her! There is no one like Evey!
I met Evelyn Rivera, at the Radisson Normandie hotel, San Juan, Puerto Rico. When we met we click right away, soon I found out she came from the Bronx New York City, where I came from, then I found out she was born at New York Hospital the same hospital I was born, then I found out she lived one block from my brother, it was unbelievable how much we had in common, from that moment we became friends, we took lunch breaks at the same time, then years latter I went to work in her department in sales and we became closer, soon I met her Husband Ian, and her two children Angie & Alex. Evelyn, was so easy to get alone with, because she was fun and always laughing, she had a positive mindset, and did not let anything take her peace away, so she became my consultant when I had situations, I took all her advice and learned how to handle my situations. Long story short, we became friends more like sisters, I new most of her immediate family members. I thank Evelyn Rivera for all her unconditional love, her friendship, for her teaching, for all her help & the business she gave to my husband & myself. Evelyn, I will love you for ever, I miss you so much, I will keep all our memories alive for ever!!! Love you Daisy
Evelyn was one of the happiest and kindest people I have ever met. I met her early in her practice through her brother Jimmy and she always thanked me for helping teach her gongyo. We became close friends right away and she shared many natural health remedies with me. She wanted to be a mother more than anything and her greatest joy (besides falling in love with Ian) was becoming a mother. Too many acts of kindness to mention one. I was blessed to be her myoho sister in the 70’s and grateful to have been part of her life. We shared joys parties chanting and our devotion to our practice. She loved her family so much ❤️
In response to "What act of kindness did you witness from Evelyn?"
My memories of evil are of a kind generous. Always making me fell welcomed. Her generation had no bounds... She will be sorely missed. God bless this new angel... Su

Hello Ian,
I was moved through time and space today as I joined the celebration for Evelyn.
Angie was so moving... as my last time to see her ( besides at FNCC) was when she was a toddler. I can see Evelyn’s spirit in her, even in Angie’s inflections and sense of humor. Evelyn clearly is with Angie.

I know Evey is so proud of her family.

There was a time, when Evelyn and I were both in Drill Dance and YWD Bronx members. As a new Bronx YWD District Leader, I had made a determination to visit every Drill Dance Member and Every Bronx YWD. (over 200 all together).
It was Evelyn who made it all happen. I will never forget us visiting YWD on weekdays after work and all day on weekends.
No matter what time we ended I would insist we stop at a “Rice and Beans” spot and depended on Evelyn who knew where ALL of them were in the Bronx. This was before cel phone.
They were tiny restaurants with only a counter and maybe some places had a few small tables, for 2.
Exhausted from the home visits, we sat and ate all our favorites: rice, beans, plantains, (she would have fish and I would have chicken). We shared stories, concerns, awkward moments, and laughed alot. We would hug and go home satisfied with a sisterhood that is eternal.

Thank you Ian for sharing Evelyn with us. She was sunshine.
Tomorrow when the sun rises in New York, we will greet each other and cheer for each other’s continued hopes and victories, knowing we forged new paths and will once again, unite.
Big hugs,

Kazuko

Ian and family,

My deepest condolences. Evelyn lit a room with her beautiful soul. I will always miss her. She never forgot my name. And every time she would see me, she would greet me with a big smile and call me by my name.

Thank you Evelyn!

Sending big hugs to all of you.
My sincere condolences to the family of Evy! Her smile is forever a reminder that joy does exist and is real.
I,m so deeply sorry for the loss of such an amazing woman. She and the family is the reason today I know about the Puerto Rican heritage. Evelyn showed me how to dance salsa at age 8 at her sister Nancy birthday party.
