OBITUARY
Our beloved mother Evelyn Manning (nee Blagrove) was born on March 12, 1943, in St. Toolies, Manchester, to Ruth and Adrian Blagrove (both predeceased). She passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022, at age 79.
Evelyn “Mamzie” attended Shortwood Teacher’s College in Kingston, Jamaica, and started her career as an educator in 1962, at the age of 19 at the Porus Primary School. She then moved on to Toll Gate All Age School where she spent the next four decades charting a path of impressive service in education and community service. Evelyn retired as the Principal of Toll Gate School in 2004 after a 42-year career with the Ministry of Education. She was a stalwart servant leader of her family, her community, her church, and her beloved Jamaica Labour Party.
Evelyn is survived by her four daughters: Sophia Manning of Houston, Texas; Marie Mitchell of Long Island, New York; Peter-Gay Manning of Atlanta, Georgia, and Kareen Avalon of St. Petersburg, Florida, her son-in-law Courtney Mitchell, her seven grandchildren, Ryanne Wiles, Andre Mitchell, Renae Irving, Brandon Irving, Cameron Irving, Joshua Mitchell, Jada Mitchell, and one great grand-daughter Legacy Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her grandson Jaden Blake.
Evelyn is also survived by her two sisters Ruth Thompson of Connecticut and Doreen Blagrove of Texas, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Evelyn, Mamzie, Mommy, Mama, Grandma, Auntie Mamzie, will be fiercely missed by her family and her many friends.
