Evan's obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected loss of our son and brother Evan Scott Winger. He graced our lives with his beautiful presence on New Year’s Day 1996, in Prince Rupert BC, and left this earth on Sunday 17 December 2023, remaining forever young in our hearts and minds. He touched all who knew him, as a boy and a man, with charm, kindness, compassion and joy. His smile was truly dazzling and will live on forever. Among other things, he was an avid hockey player, angler and golfer; a gamer, fly-tyer and poet, and threw himself into everything he loved. He worked as a carpenter, fishing guide, first aid attendant and most recently at Point Hope Maritime after graduating from Stelly’s Secondary in 2014. He was lucky to have travelled to Brazil, Dominican Republic, Haida Gwaii and across Canada in his short life and found solace in Nature throughout. He loved his family, close friends, a few special women and his dog Aspen deeply. He was well loved in return as it was such an easy and natural thing to do. We will be holding a Celebration of Life, open house style, at the Sequoia Centre, McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive in Victoria BC and we welcome any and all family and friends who knew him to come commemorate Ev with us on Saturday December 30th from 2–5. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to evanwingermemorialfund@gmail.… where a memorial golf tournament and commemorative bench are being planned by his brothers Ryan and Logan, dad Todd and mom Christine. He leaves an unspeakably large void in our lives and the lives of our extended family. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family everywhere.
