Evan's obituary

Evan Russell, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025 at the age of 40. Though his life was shorter than desired, he sought to live purposefully and meaningfully, making each day count.

Evan grew up in Mississippi with an endless curiosity about the world and a remarkable gift for connecting with people from all walks of life, whether in his career, his community, or around the family dinner table, where he was happiest.

From a young age, Evan was witty and quick of thought, with a mind that noticed details others might easily overlook. He was always making observations about the world and weaving them into clever, lighthearted musings that left others laughing or wondering.

He grew into a quiet, humble man with a servant’s heart. He didn’t find his joy in getting recognized, but in caring well for others and meeting their needs - both great and small. His greatest love and devotion belonged to his wife, Tracy, and their children, Isaiah and Emma. They gave Evan a deep sense of passion and purpose in planning and serving well.

Evan had a love for cultivating life, in every sense of the word. He tended honeybees, gardens, and chickens with diligence and care, and he poured the same devotion into raising his children and creating a home filled with love. His home was never just a building—it was a place of refuge, laughter, and warmth, carefully nurtured by his hands and heart.

Traveling and meeting people from all over the world was another favorite pastime. He delighted in trying new foods and hearing about how others grew up and how their culture and experiences shaped their lives. For him, every person was a teacher, every story was worth hearing, and every friendship was a chance to see the world through a new lens.

Above all else, Evan loved God. His faith was his steady foundation and his greatest source of hope and comfort, especially throughout his battle with cancer this year. He faced his hardest days with courage, grace and strength, holding firmly to the promises of his faith.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Tracy, and their children, Isaiah and Emma; his parents, Clay and Marcia Russell; his siblings, Matt Russell, Will Russell, and Emily Vandiver with their respective families; his parents in-law, Sally and Larry Nishida; his sister-in-law, Linda Nishida and her family; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be deeply missed by them all.

A celebration of Evan’s life will be held at Community Christian Church on Sunday, October 19th, 2025 at 4 pm. All are welcome to join. The memorial service will be followed by a reception. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish, a story about Evan, or just themselves during this time of remembrance and fellowship. The event will also be livestreamed for those who wish to join online.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Isaiah’s and Emma’s education fund, ensuring that Evan’s greatest legacy—his love and devotion to his children—continues to grow and flourish in their lives.

Though Evan has left this world, his laughter echoes, his love endures, and his spirit remains a bright reminder not to take life too seriously.
