Gene's obituary
Dripping Springs, Texas - Eugene “Gene” Witkowski, 101, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023, in Austin, TX.
Gene was born December 1, 1921, in Buffalo, New York where he grew up and lived until joining the Marines during WWII, bravely and heroically serving in the First Tank Battalion at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. After the war, Gene returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Norma, having two children, Donna and Douglas, later moving to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1963.
Gene spent his career working in construction and discovered his love of running after moving to Ft. Lauderdale. Gene was an avid runner and an active member of the local running community. He became a race course certifier for USA Track & Field and certified hundreds of the courses in the South Florida area, supporting and volunteering for many non-profits in raising money for their worthy causes through hosting 5K, 10K and Marathon races.
Gene was predeceased by his wife, Norma, but is survived by his daughter Donna Kuchinski and her husband Randy from Plano, TX as well as his son, Doug and his wife Sally of Dripping Springs, TX, and his grandchildren Sarah Jean and Douglas Dorsey.
The family will have a private “celebration of life” in Dripping Springs on what would have been Gene’s 102nd birthday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Women in Distress in his name.
