Gene's obituary
Eugene Victor McCarthy was born on June 4, 1940, and passed away on June 27, 2024. He was an extraordinary man and I would even say legendary. He wore many hats and was passionate and caring. He led a life of service. He served in the Army 101st Airborne Division, LAPD, and LA County Fire Department for 27 years. He helped create the concept of a fireman as a paramedic worldwide. After retirement, he worked for the FBI, the Secret Service for a Haitian President, and on the Sedona Fireboard. One of his last projects in his 80's was fighting human trafficking online with the Sheriff's Department.
When he wasn't saving the world, he excelled at everything he took on. He ran marathons, was an avid road biker as a younger man, and he was an amazing artist, sculptor, woodworker, and an excellent cook. He also loved his family and friends. He was a loving father, grandfather, and husband to his wife Jackie. He had great faith and was a devout Christian. He found peace in his church and fellowship. His support and understanding for all of us over the years will be greatly missed, but we all know what he would say to us.... EGBOK (Every Thing Is Gonna Be Okay).
