Eugene's obituary

Eugene Darby of Kenai, Alaska passed away on November 23rd, 2021 at the age of 82. He was just north of Clam Gulch on his way home from an early Thanksgiving dinner with family. 

Gene was born in Topeka, Kansas to Mildred and Raymond Darby on June 6th, 1939. He graduated in 1957 from Highland Park Highschool in Topeka, Kansas. He married Carolyn on June 7th, 1959 in Lawrence, Kansas. He served in the Army & was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a line splicer for City Electric for 20 years. After his service, he enjoyed many hobbies such as showing quarter horses and was an avid marathon runner. He was involved in Safari Club for many years and went on numerous hunts all over the world receiving the Malek “Golden” Award for his extraordinary hunting achievements. Gene enjoyed woodworking and anyone lucky enough to receive something made by him knows full well Gene was a master at his craft. 

Gene Darby is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Darby, his parents Mildred & Raymond Darby and his great grandson Bentley (F-250).

Gene was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by anyone fortunate enough to have met him.

Gene Darby is survived by his children Michael Darby and Deanna Caley, his brother Keith Darby, his grandchildren Carrara Poindexter (Logan Poindexter), Kimberly Bates, Liane Darby, Chris Caley, his great grandson Turok, all of his extended family in Kansas, his good friends Mike & Karen Dinkle and Steve & Kathy Turner. 

Gene’s family would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Joshua McDaniel & Jackie De La Cruz who attempted to revive Gene by performing chest compressions, while waiting for emergency services to arrive at scene of the accident, and the EMS personnel for their prompt response and doing everything they could.
