How do you describe a man who came from a large family, raised a large family, learned to fix just about anything, and always had time to give advice and support ? That was my Uncle Gene. We would talk 2-3 times a month. He loved telling stories of growing up, telling jokes with his deliberately placed punchlines, and he loved to talk about the old neighborhoods in South Chicago "The Bush" and surrounding areas. His soft, calming voice was always a comfort to me, and his laugh always made me laugh. He always found time for family. I remember annual family gatherings in Dyer, Indiana where family would come from miles around to play volleyball, catch up, and of course eat plenty of food prepared by Aunt Lil and other family members. Not only was Uncle Gene self-taught in just about every trade by helping others and learning at the same time, when he no longer was able to do the things he loved so much he would watch YouTube to learn more and marvel at the improvements from days gone by. Yes, I will miss my Uncle Gene but I will always have his memories and voicemails. Rest in peace dear Uncle. My love goes with you.

The obituary was so beautifully written.
Uncle Eugene was a very gentle, kind soul.
My condolences to Aunt Lil and the rest of his family.
My God bless and comfort you all.
I’m sure there was quite the reunion in Heaven with his father, mom and siblings.
WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN UNCLE GENE!!!!!

Dear aunt Lil and family. May the peace of God that passes all our understanding be with all of you at this very difficult time. I didn’t know uncle Gene very well but my mom (Marge) has shared with me many times about his kindness to her when she was growing up and even recently through txting and phone calls. What a blessing to know that uncle Gene made a lasting impact on those around him, even to the very end of his days here on the earth. Lean into the Lord during this trying time for He is your comforter!

My sincere condolences to "Aunt" Lil and the entire family. I remember "Uncle" Gene being especially kind to me when I was a very young boy (that was a long, long time ago). The last time that I saw him was 12 years ago and he was still the very kind man that I remembered him being from my youth. Once again I am so very sorry for your loss.

Uncle Gene was a one-in-a-million man. He & I recently had the blessing to text, talk on the phone & share pictures. He has always had a special place in my heart from the times I spent summers as a child with Grandma & Grandpa Blaho to now…and forever. Mike & I send our heartfelt sympathy to Aunt Lil and family. Rest in the perfect peace of Heaven you so well have earned, Uncle Gene.

I want to thank you for being my dad. I couldn’t have manifested a better example of what a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, & friend should look like. You set the bar about as high as it would go. The world should use your life as a gauge for all that is righteous and good. I’m pretty sure Heaven must’ve needed a teacher angel so God sent for you. Make sure you get some fishing in with Clay! I’ll bet he was at the head of the line to greet you and show you around.
Please check in on all of us as we still kind of need your advice GPS. I will miss your voice terribly dad so I’m saving all those missed call voicemails. Thank God you left them for me even though I always called you right back. Love love love you!! Till we meet again Cheryl
