My sincere condolences to the Robertson family. Over the past few months I had been thinking of Ethan and was wondering to myself how he was doing in his studies and if he had progressed further. Ethan was a student in my physics and astronomy classes at San Joaquin Delta College. He also went on to assist me as my grader for my astronomy class. I have had many remarkable students in my 4 decades of teaching but he stood out because of his genuine curiosity about what he was learning. Moreover, Ethan loved sharing what he learned with others and he did so with great enthusiasm. I recall times he would ask me if he could take out the telescopes to observe the celestial skies, for which I always granted him permission. Later, I would check to see how his observing was going only to find a small group of students he had attracted to enjoy the journey of learning along with him. Upon receiving the news of his passing last night, I was quite shocked but I am nevertheless trusting in God's timing for his earthly departure. It was my great pleasure in knowing this young man and I will dearly miss him.
