Emory's obituary
Dr. Emory Heyward, Jr., 81, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away on January 01, 2023 after battling multiple illnesses but finally succumbing to diastolic congestive heart failure and pneumonia after a long and valiant fight.
Emory was born on August 27, 1941 to Emory S. Heyward, Sr. and Louise Powell Heyward in Macon, Georgia. After graduating from high school, he went on to study at Mercer College earning his BA in 1963, then went on to West Georgia College earning his Master's in 1975, and then attended George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University earning his EDS in 1977 and then his EDD in 1980. While going to school and earning his multiple degrees, he served in the United States Army Reserves from 1961 through 1966. Somehow he still found the time to work full time and raise a family. He met Sue Louise Trapnell during his time at Mercer College and they wed on June 10, 1963, going on to have 3 children, Julia Lynn, Emory Speer III (Bo) and Janet Lea.
Emory was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved and did just that and then some. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children and his wonderful wife Sue, and always did his best to support them. Anyone who knew Emory knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Emory was predeceased by his father, mother, sisters Eugenia and Marion, and his beautiful daughter Julia Lynn Heyward.
He was loved and cared for until his last moments by his amazing and strong wife, Sue. This is something he was tremendously grateful for, even when he was too sick to voice his feelings.
He will be missed every moment of every day, and loved forever. He made every holiday special, especially Christmas. There will never be anyone else like him, and the world is dimmer now that his light has been extinguished. We love you, Dad. Now and forever.
