My sincere condolences to the Odesanya family.
My name is Hawa and have known daddy for many years.
He was a great person who added so much value to my life and that of my children. Always full of advice and constantly praying for us.
A man of great faith, with every conversation with him starting and ending with praising God.
He is the man who made me realise that, life must carry on and that there is no point in complaining but to look up to God.
He loves family and always spoke fondly about how wonderful his wife and children are.
He was also part of St Cedds church family here in Dagenham and he touched the lives of most church members who took keen interest in his well-being over the years.
Death is inevitable. But people must live their life to the fullest and should ensure that their lives are remembered for the good deeds . Daddy you deserve to be celebrated and I have no doubt that Haven is also celebrating for receiving you.
May you rest in perfect peace and may God continue to bless and be with your wife and the rest of the family that you have left behind.
Till we meet again on that beautiful shores!
Hawa

At Ikenne, I was in his house at Ikenne along with Funmbi Ayeni. It never took him time to recognize me but not by name until I mentioned my name. It has been over 40 years interval since I left NEPA at Abeokuta.
It was a joyful moment as he related his retirement and his gospel outreach through his church. He was glad as usual to hear my progress in life how I have been able to esterblished myself from a low clerical staff to become a university professor in the United States.
He discussed with Funmbi at lenght on family issues until we departed after about 45 mnutes with him.
In response to "When was the last time you spent time with Emmanuel?"

Engr. Opeyemi Odesanya was my boss. A very loyal and dedicated young Eng. who came to NEPA as an Engineer at tender age with zeal, dedication, forthrightness and a comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering in 1972. Apart from his engineering academic excellence he possessed the experience of human relations which was part of what was needed in Abeokuta. Before he took over from the previous adminstration NEPA image was very poor as a result of power failures. He was able to restore lights to all areas of Abeokuta and the neighbouring counties. He was knowledgeable of his job and very experienced in negotiations with people in power. Dr Majekodunmi paid for one year electricity for the street lighting. NEPA Consumer Consultative Council was formed. It was the formation of this council that changed the face of Imo, NEPA office. Mrs Funmilayo Ransome Kuti was the chairlady of the council. These were part of the human relation activities he displayed
Engr. Ope does not only sent his supervisors to sites. He went there with them and worked tirelessly at the power stations alongside with his dedicated supervisors Mr Kudehinbu and Shonekan.
He was always in control of all department to see that all staff were happy. Whenever there was a power failure he quickly jumped out of his air condition office, called on Pedro his dedicated NEPA driver and zoomed to the power station and in no time lights were restored.
We all understood him very well that whenever he pulled up in his Cortina car he blew his horn twice to show that he was around and it was an awareness that you must be in the right place doing the right thing. He was very much loved and respected by all staff in Abeokuta. Ifo, Ewekoro and Otta.
He paid casual visits to all department and commended individual efforts. He was a good listener to critics and he resolved mostly all problems right on the spot.
He was a masterpiece in electrical engineering and he did an excellent job while at Abeokuta. Rest in peace - The best Engineer then in Abeokuta.
Odumegun Ojukwu said in one his last speech that Obafemi Awolowo should have been the best President Nigeria NEVER had. Obafemi Awololo was from Ikenne, Ijebu Remo. I am categorically saying that Opeyemi Odesanya was the best General Manager, Abeokuta NEPA EVER had. Opeyemi Odesanya was from Ikenne, Ijebu Remo.
God bless Ikenne for the continous reproduction of intellectuals.

Rev. Odesanya is my father even though he is my mother's uncle because he made me his son. He was so humble and so nice to everybody that I have witnessed people taking undue advantage of his virtues. When he was in Nigeria, I was often with him as he taught me so many lessons on virtues which I sincerely found very hard to learn. I know he is in heaven where we will meet to part no more.
