We only met Emma briefly (as friends of the Clark’s) but she made a lasting impression on us as a unique person and brilliant bird whisperer. We can see how much Emma was loved by others and our hearts go out to her partner Krishna and beautiful child Veda… Sending our deepest condolences to Diane, Richard and Lilly for your unfathomable loss. xoxo from the Woodward family; Carole and Woody, Marguerite and John

I was thrilled to reconnect with Emma this fall at AOS- she made me feel instantly welcome despite how many years had passed since she mentored me during undergrad at Cornell. I am so grateful that she made time for me, and my heart is breaking for her family and dear ones.
Emma was a bright light and leaves a huge hole in our community, she is missed. Love, love, love to Krishna, Veda, Ana, Kaly and the rest of Emma's family.

Emma and I only knew each other through AOS conferences, but even from those passing conversations Emma's bright spirit shone through. I'm so grateful that our lives overlapped even for a moment; she was a once-in-a-lifetime kid of person. It was great to catch up with her in October and hear her characteristic wit and groundedness and brilliance. Emma just constantly inspired those around her to live authentic, beautiful lives.

Wishing peace and light to all those in Ithaca and beyond who knew and loved Emma so much.

Emma was a dear friend, and I’m so sad that she’s gone. Going to Ithaca and visiting her was always a highlight when I’m on the East Coast—many happy mornings where Emma fixed me delicious egg breakfast burritos with yummy new sauces, washed out the egg shells for her finches, and refused to let me help do the dishes. We would chitchat the day away, and Emma was so good at finding insightful questions, so conversation never lagged. I always left in a happier mood and having had Emma solve some problem for me.

My deepest condolences to the whole family.

I’m so deeply sad about Emma. She was a wonderful friend and a caring person, and it’s so hard to believe she’s gone. There are no words for it. Krishna and Lily and Veda - I am so so sorry.

Richard and Diane - when I visited Ithaca last spring, Emma and I got coffee, and we were talking about how hard it is to know exactly what to do for our kids as they’re growing up. She told me about how strongly you always supported her childhood love of nature and animals and birds, and went above and beyond with the aviary — a level of support that is truly aspirational. I will always remember that, and also the way that Emma as an adult appreciated how seen and valued you made her feel as a child.

My deepest love and condolences to Veda, Krishna, Emma's parents, sister, brother-in-law, and immense community of friends. I've struggled to grapple with Emma's passing as well as articulate my anguish. She truly was a beacon of positivity, kindness, joy, and goodness.  So much has been lost. As depicted in these memories, she touched the lives of so many people, including me. I will miss her.
