My Freshmen year of high school, my family moved across the country to Ridgefield and I had the privilege of having Emily in my ceramics class. As the new kid to the school Emily made me feel so welcome and made sure I had at least one friend in her. She was a junior then and didn't have to reach out to me but the special thing about Em was that I think she did have to. That's just the kind of person Emily was. Her enormous heart and insurmountable kindness couldn't let someone like me go on feeling alone for even a minute longer.  Even after our time together in Mrs. Grassi's Ceramics class, she would light up and talk to me when I saw her in the halls. Although we had not kept in touch over the years she always reached out on social media to congratulate me any chance she could. I will truly miss Emily and the joy and pure kindness she possessed.

Emily was a junior in my English class years ago. She was the kindest girl. I used to say she was the class mother because she’d “mother hen” the rowdier kids, all of for whom I had such a soft spot. I never forgot her, and my heart broke to hear the news of her passing. I don’t remember every student I have taught—I wish I did, but there are so many; however, I can still see Emily in the front row smiling with Matt Weber. The world is a little darker without her bright smile and inherent kindness. I am so sorry for your loss, but so grateful I was lucky enough to have known such a good soul.
