Emerson was always one call away and he’d show up

If you needed a friend

If you needed help

If you didn’t call he’d get off work at the giants and ride the bus to a fire and show up at a shelter to help

He’d be there to save the day with his smile

He’d help and nothing was beneath him and he would not leave “ come on I am here already.” They would say “ Emerson you were not assigned but since your here

We will use you. Emerson was always showing up to help out. Emerson sorry we can’t show up to help you.

 We are the lucky ones!

Remember as you walk thru life , when you weep the hardest and feel the cut sting from sorrow, you will see that what brought you to your knees to pound a floor and scream into a pillow , gasping for air and the throat stuck , that person that made you cry also brought you much delight.

As you search for wisdom to gather your marbles to stay connected to reality and to keep control over what you still have, it can’t hurt so bad if they didn’t make you like them so much more that you can’t live without the memories they made with you, so know you were the lucky one, you let them live in your life and you made memories , you had impact with him together and you made pictures that only your eyes window can push aside the tear shades to view, only you can see those moments in time where time stopped and you felt their care, kindness and consideration and they won your adoration. May their photos , old pins of achievement and memories be a loyal friend as you journey in your own life without them.

You are not alone. Not easy to be without Emerson who did so much and reached out so far.

Thank you Animal “ Emerson Chin” for the good memories that we made, the laughs we laughed and the smiles we shared. You always told me “ “Life’s to short, be happy and get to know people”.  So know it is time to embody your words. Long live Animal.

Emerson was small but  a mighty flyer, he made a plane for Ada out of popsicles from our ice cream breaks.

He was a co-worker assisting god in collecting lost souls that had no family, no food, no resources.

Some people give money, he gave money and time, his clothes, a place to bathe, and then he would walk them to soup kitchens, pantries, shower buses  and to resources in the community before he let them go. When I asked him why, he told me he was homeless and

He never forgot the kindness offered so he wanted people to find family like the ones he found at SFIC, Red Cross, VFW, Wa Sung, Boy Scouts, CYC, NICOS, SFNERT, YMCA, On Lok, Self Help for the Elderly, NEMS, Open Hand, SF GIANTS, FORTY NINERS, SF Bible Church, etc. I’ve never met someone so busy to Grace others with service and a smile and a hearty laugh.  Always too busy for himself but had the time always to help others.

Thank you Emerson for being such a kind soul and beautiful, spirited person. You were one of the first people I met at Red Cross when I was just 12 years old and your love of driving buses, our beloved Giants and Niners, and giving back to the community was evident in every meeting we had. Rest in peace my friend.
Angels walk among us.  Emerson was one of them.  For the fifty or so years I’ve known him, I have always been grateful to  Animal Chin for many things.  He treated everyone he met with kindness, compassion and respect. Thank you Emerson for the many insights you’ve given me.  Thank you for being Bodie’s friend, and a friend to all Boy Scouts.  You will be missed, Emerson/Animal, but Heaven will be a, happier,  highly entertained and better place.  Watch over us Emerson, you’ve made it your job for a long long time.  We ❤️You.

I am so sorry for the loss of Emerson. He is a nice man, a great Boy Scout Leader to Troop 201 of Oakland Chinatown, and a great guy in the Chinese community. We will miss the smile and happiness he brought.
