On Memorial Day Emerson told …
On Memorial Day Emerson told us many loved ones were just symbolized in a folded flag to family but in life they meant a lot more as family members, lifetime friends, comrades, community leaders that cared. And every Memorial Day we celebrate peace we inherit from those who gave their lives for democracy freedom so always live a life worthy of their ultimate sacrifice and their family sacrifice that soldier did a lot to help. God bless America so we need to honor, cherish, remember, value them, value the anthem. See flag it says one thing: “I am something bigger than myself.” Armed forces medley plays whatever the order Coast guard, Space Force, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army, Red Cross. We are all ready to fight for our good old USA. And never forget the lone black and white flag -POW. May all of them return home soon.- Emerson Chin
Emerson was a strong supporte…
Emerson was a strong supporter of the JROTC. It wasn’t as simple as not doing gym. He told us jrotc was about building strong teamwork discipline. And strong sense of responsibility towards serving to improve country thru service. So every year in April he would go to support the jrotc competition between high schools in SF at Lincoln High School.

Ching Ming, April 5, Emerson …
Ching Ming, April 5, Emerson would always get a chicken and a roast pork and some fried drumsticks and head off to the cemetery. “I might be Christian but I don’t think god would mind, I know my mom and dad like this tradition, “he’d whip out incense and oranges and the meat and pray then he’d eat a drumstick. “Want one they really good at gourmet kitchen?” That’s our Animal Emerson Chin. Always filial and always a good foodie.

I worked with Emerson at the GIANTS games. He was in charge of the elevator at the Marina entrance. While working in the elevator, He would listen to Led Zeppelin and Frank Sinatra and everything in between.

Go Giants!!!!!

Every year Emerson would donate money and buy toys to toys for tots and firefighters toy drive and toy for joy for Salvation Army. Here he is laughing after it was all done.
Wreaths across America- What …
Wreaths across America- What a nice moment to stop And lay a wreath across a head stone to remember a fallen soldier, a time to say I stopped shopping and getting material things to think of someone to say their name and say happy holidays. Emerson always went out in the rain with us and started in one end of the cemetery and walked all the way to the back ends to wish them happy holidays just in case some celebrate Hanukkah. We would walk for hours then walk to the ones near the restroom and we’d go get food and sit on the rocking chairs and talk about old times and veteran friends passed. We miss our tradition with Emerson but we carry it on.

Emerson one time scolded us for not going to Italian fair for Columbus Day. He told us “I will go to this event from 1:30-4pm. Want to go with us and support your neighborhood. Buy some popcorn, play some games, donate some prizes for them to auction out, eat some food. I am going, you guys go when you can. Remember your support helps the kids with the wide innocent eyes don’t be lazy we have to have fun.”

Sacramento Railroad Museum was something special Emerson told us Indians used to call it the iron horse and they moved people and resources to places faster and the excursion trains go for $15 so you could ride along the Sacramento River and you can sit in passenger coaches.

Wow factor is seeing the cars with reconstructed engines and their memories of their cars made it hard to get passed the drives and picnics with family members in Chevrolet. Emerson would have loved the red and black Lamborghini. Amazing work and hobby!

August 18, 2024, Sunday- Another year of the barbacue at the Pacific Bus Museum in Fremont where you get $14 hearty meal with bbq hamburger and breasts of juicy chicken and macaroni salad and crunchy chips with iced soda. We remember always going with Emerson taking the 30 Stockton bus then taking Bart to Fremont then we walked around the Bart station cross the railroad crossing to the museum in the steamy street, the buses were amazing, vintage vehicles with history.

One of Emerson favorite requests was to get jonji, Chinese tamales from his mom on his birthday, they would be filled with half fatty and meaty marinated marbleized pork, peanuts, soy bean, an orange salted egg yolk, shrimp and the softest rice boiled hours with love tied like a present. His favorite thing was getting small bites but saving the last bit of sausage so you chew savory at the very end. Hope you like your jonji Emerson.

August 16, 2024- Another birthday Emerson for you. We even got you lemon roll. And your sister made meat loaf and pasta. Mmmmmm Mmmmm good. We thought about all the food you liked and we did not forget the soft drink.
Korean War Memorial June 25,…
Korean War Memorial June 25, 2024 - Many were just teenagers fresh out of high school no dream yet and were caught in someone's chess game named control of Korean Peninsula War after the Japanese left Korea in 1945. The experience left a bleach resistant stain in their lives forever.😞 Emerson always went to these to honor the men and women and asked us to listen to their stories.
Summertime Emerson was alert …
Summertime Emerson was alert on camp fires and always enjoyed helping children learn about putting foods they like to eat regularly into their preparedness kits.
Emerson and Bill Jeong would …
Emerson and Bill Jeong would go to CYC, Community Youth Center Events. It was started to offer at risk youths a safe place to build strong community values and a place to share their talent. Whenever they had their award ceremony and fundraiser Bill and Emerson would buy raffles to support them and Emerson would buy whole table and invite ten friends so they could see the man Michael Wong, Mr. Chinatown Community Youth and senior Supporter. Emerson looked at Michael Wong and saw him as an inspiring mentor who always engaged youths to serve and show that they are more than their sad origin story or what they are on paper. Michael helped develop their true self, like themselves and go out to help the community they love.
Memorial Day- Emerson would …
Memorial Day- Emerson would do post activities to pass out buddy poppies to tell veterans and others to remember the resilience of the military and where there was death in Flanders field red poppies grew to teach us there is something good that comes out of heartache. You learn that war is not good and you learn about the importance of enjoying life. So he would go to the St Mary’s square celebration to remember Asians participating in war and also go to the National Memorial Day ceremony at the presidio cemetery and then we would walk to every headstone to thank them for their service.

Emerson would take part in the Asian American and Pacific Islander celebrations for May and help with security and help keep people safe and he got us involved in security in the dressing rooms, and he would do it thru the Lions Club to celebrate diversity. We would talk about the olden days: they had Toishan people Sam Yup Cantonese and that was it, it was not until after the Vietnam war that he came home and we started seeing Vietnamese in San Francisco in 1980s. So it was exciting to have so many diverse people in San Francisco and Michael Jeong would always be there taking photos of the parade of international ladies in costumes at the Herbst Theater followed by them all coming over to the reception and food at City Hall in the rotunda and light courts. Emerson and I would get our A insignia t-shirt and walk all over the place proudly displaying it as we enjoyed the reception in rotunda - Homer, Marine MS
We remembered on April 5, 20…
We remembered on April 5, 2024. Bill Jeong, Michael Jeong and Emerson Chin for Ching Ming. Emerson was always arguing with Bill Jeong over Ching Ming tradition of sweeping the headstones and remembering ancestors. Emerson said as a Christian he liked praying to god but felt his dad wanted roast pork and chicken, not flowers 💐 only. We told him you do you. He liked the honoring of those passed with roast pork with crispy skin and a flavored chicken with soy sauce or chicken and ginger. Maybe some fried drumsticks and some egg salad and Diet Coke and a box of Sees candy. Sounds like Emerson treats because we think they all were. As his friend we knew it meant he was also giving some of it all to himself. We would always ride the bus with him and he would bring three incense sticks and a little money with red wax candles and then he’d be sad and pray. After he would climb over all the up and down hills and take back the meat to his house for the weeks meal and he would go to McDonald’s to celebrate with us and we’d go Dutch and get fries as a burger and a shake to celebrate another successful Ching Ming honoring ancestors and now we remember Bill, Emerson and Michael for Ching Ming. - A Chan
