I’ve known Ellen since the late ‘80s when I started dating her ex-husband, Grant Meyers.

Ellen was always generous in sharing her girls with me.

I always felt included in family events:  Christmas mornings when the girls were younger, graduations from high school and college and birthdays.

One of my best memories was the road trip Ellen, Judy and I made in Grant’s Suburban to Raleigh, NC for Gretchen’s graduation from Duke. Grant was already in North Carolina, so we three ladies made the trek without him. We laughed the whole way and talked about everything under the sun.

Other memories are the humorous times with Grant: Kristen & Gavin’s wedding, Grant escorting both his “wives” out after the ceremony was over; Gretchen & Matt’s wedding in Italy and the great vacation with Kristen, Gavin, Baby Alice, Ellen, Daphne, Grant & I. There was a lovely villa we stayed in and the Italians who ran it struggled to figure out how there was one Mr. Grant Meyers and two Mrs. Grant Meyers all happily vacationing and dining together.

After Grant’s death, Ellen was very comforting to me, calling and checking in every couple of weeks just to make sure I was doing okay.  I’ll always remember and treasure the talks about the girls, granddaughters and books we were reading during that trying time in my life.

I’ll miss her support and love always.

So surprised and sad to hear of Ellen’s passing. What a lovely woman. Our fun times Line Dancing  in Hollywood will always be dear to me. She helped a newbie like me learn the steps. And she shared many book recommendations that I so enjoyed. Deepest sympathies.

I’m just devastated !

I was Ellen Hairstylist for almost 20 years!

The sweet smile that she had every time and the good conversation about her family the shows that she watched and I watch (Dancing with the Stars)her favorite !Rest Easy my beautiful friend🙏🏻🕊️for ever in my heart💜

What a fabulous tribute to a woman anyone reading this was fortunate to have in their life.  Her love to her girls and grandkids was so evident.  Ellen  was a great listener and brought a calm and wit to Meyers family dynamics ...  reading, dogs, listening and music were part of my hazy memories of her as an auntie in my youth, and it is no surprise that these qualities remained central throughout her life.  Chi, as I thought of her later,  remained someone I admired and enjoyed at extended family gatherings.   Our family is sending love to her daughters, granddaughters, sons-in-laws, siblings and friends - may the wonderful memories summed up in this obit and great selection of photos comfort you in these difficult days.

My heart goes out to you as you now mourn Chi’s death. At a time like this, I turn to a favorite passage:

I want to say something to all of you who have become a part of the fabric of my life. The color and texture which you have brought into my being have become a song, and I want to sing it forever.

There is an energy in us which makes things happen when the paths of other persons touch ours … And we have to be there and let it happen.

When the time of our particular sunset comes, our thing, our accomplishments, won’t really matter a great deal.

But the clarity and care with which we have loved others will speak with vitality of the GREAT GIFT OF LIFE we have been for each other.

(A meditation within a song by Brother Gregory Norbert)

I always enjoyed my time with Chi, who was always easy to be with. I loved that — along with our favorite granddaughter— we also shared favorite authors: We had so many conversations about books we were reading or had read! And I enjoyed fantasizing that someday we might even play bridge together!

Chi had the ability to appreciate people, and her interactions were always calm … wise … and accepting. As the meditation says, she truly loved people with “clarity and care.” Indeed, she was a GREAT GIFT OF LIFE for all of us lucky enough to have known her.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you — Gretchen and Kristen … Daphne, Alice and Frances … and sons-in-law Matt and Gavin.  Chi loved you all so deeply!  We know her death leaves an irreparable hole in your lives—but oh your memories of this remarkable woman!

Caring and Kind  .  .  .

    Wise and Witty  .  .  .

          Always wearing a Smile !  !  !

What a joy to be with her at our Book Worms discussion group . . . I enjoyed having her in my home recently for a monthly gathering . . . I know I speak for all seven of us, "We miss you, Dear Ellen!"

I have been working at the Humane Society of Broward County since 2008, and Ellen always brought a smile to my face when I saw her. I first met her when I started in the adoptions department where she was volunteering. She was so welcoming and you could instantly tell that she was such an amazing person. I saw her less often when I changed departments, but I was lucky to have my desk near the room where she ran the pet loss meetings. Ellen would always go out of her way to stop and say hi on her way to set up for the meetings. She had a way of making you feel special, like your stories were important to her - and I truly believe that they were. Ellen had such a giving spirit and I feel lucky to have known her even in the small capacity that I did. May her memory be a blessing to us all.
On behalf of everyone at the …
2009

On behalf of everyone at the Humane Society of Broward County, we are deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear the news about a truly amazing volunteer and person. Ellen volunteered with us for about 15 years, and she put her heart into everything she did. She's worked in several positions and made an impact in each, but the people she touched when she headed the Pet Loss and Grieving meetings were most memorable.

Our condolences to Ellen's family. We always felt like she was part of our family, too.

I’m so sorry to hear about Ch…
2023
I’m so sorry to hear about Chi. I met Chi through Judy. I’ve known her for a long time and I’m sad I can’t remember specific details or memories. The thing is she just fit right in. Every special occasion I got to hang out with her and she put up with our loud family, just talking, playing games, eating, relaxing with us. Covid changed a lot and I didn’t get to see her as much, but her presence was missed and it was always nice having her with us. She was a good lady and will be missed.

What to say about my best friend??

Ellen and I met in 1977 when our youngest children were 3 years old and starting pre-school. We started hanging out together and our friendship grew from there. We both went through divorces and became our own little support group for each other – sharing after school care, play dates and eventually going on vacations together.

We lived in the same neighborhood and would get together at the lake between our houses on Sunday morning to discuss our dates of the previous night. More recently (after we had given up on dating) we would hang out together every Saturday, go to a movie and out for dinner. We texted each other every morning to say we had survived the night and what we had planned for our day.

She was one of the brightest people I’ve ever known and had a memory that I envied. She could always be counted upon to recall details. We traveled to Europe together several times and I have loads of pictures and albums of our travels together.

We’ve been through it all – good and bad. Her loss will leave a big hole in my life. I feel very fortunate to have had her as my friend and will miss her every day.
