Liz's obituary
Elizabeth Anne Lickle (nee Murray), affectionately called “Liz” by her friends, was born to Francis Alan Gordon Murray, M.D. and Gertrude Anna Murray (nee Hafer) on August 10th, 1939 in Cumberland, Maryland. After graduating from Allegany High School in 1957, she moved to Baltimore to study voice at the Peabody Institute. Liz earned her Associate of Arts degree from Towson State College in 1960 and married Jarrett Spotswood Lickle (“Patches”), a popular children’s television personality, in 1963. They were married 49 years when she was preceded in death by her husband in 2012.
In the 1960s, “Patches and Liz” opened a coffeehouse in Timonium called the 15 Below in the basement of the old Timonium Inn. In addition to acting as surrogate parents and confidants to many of the kids who were regulars, many lifelong friendships were formed. A few of the guest artists were John Denver, Emmylou Harris, and Don McLean.
After the closing of the 15 Below, “Patches and Liz” performed professionally as a popular musical duo throughout Baltimore County singing folk songs and ballads.
Liz earned her nursing degree from Catonsville Community College in the early 1980s and became an R.N. at Baltimore County General Hospital (Northwest Hospital). After retiring from a long nursing career in which she gave unparalleled care while singing to her patients, she enjoyed working part-time at the Hallmark store in Hunt Valley.
Liz was a loving mom and grandmother. She touched many lives, brought forth laughter everywhere she went, had a great sense of humor, had a gorgeous singing voice, was generous, and demonstrated unfathomable courage in the end.
She will be greatly missed by and is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jarrett Bernoni (nee Lickle), her son-in-law, Carlo Bernoni, and her grandson, Vincent Jarrett Bernoni, of Timonium; her three stepdaughters, Andrea Allen of Towson, Kathryn Rumsey of Newfield, NY, Laura Stark of Newburgh, NY; her sister, Nancy Alan Tase (nee Murray) of Virginia Beach, VA; her two nephews, Stephen Tase of Virginia Beach, VA, and Albert Tase, III of Waxhaw, NC; and her niece, Cheryl Tase of Virginia Beach, VA.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Dec. 15, at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Road, Timonium.
