Betty's obituary

Beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Barden passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the age of 81. Born September 1,1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, she dedicated her life to helping others, mainly children through her long career of teaching third grade in schools throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. A lifetime member of the Episcopal Church, she was active in church choirs as well as playing the piano and violin. Nothing was more important to her than her family and friends, and she would always put others before herself. In 1968 she married John “Jack” Barden and enjoyed 56 years of marriage before her passing. In that time she had two children, five grandchildren, and two dogs plus countless vacations to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the eastern shore of Maryland. She is preceded in death by her best friend and sister Barbara Arnold and is survived by her husband Jack Barden, daughter Kendra Mara, son Doug Barden, 5 grandchildren (Brennan 16, Conlan 13, Kaitlyn 11, Quinn 9 and Jack 5 months,) plus family members Tom Mara, Lindsay Dye, Dave Henderson, niece Hanje Kelley and Kelley MacCubbin-Brown, nephew Ryan MacCubbin and brother Bob MacCubbin. A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, November 1, 2024.  We will all miss her kind heart, loving hugs, and her voice echoing in stores, schools, or churches saying “Thank you for everything you do.”  Thanks to you all, we were able to raise $5,000 which was donated directly to the teachers of Jones Lane Elementary where she worked from 1987 - 2000. Thank you for your love and support.
