I will always remember you as…
His house Christmas party
I will always remember you as my brother as your mom raised me. Remembering dibs on anything we wanted like front seat of a car ride, which chair we wanted, playing parchisi and war. We had a great childhood. I am just so sorry we were not in touch more later in life. My prayers go out to the family and may you RIP. Love you.
Reading this makes me wish I had met Ellis. What a gifted man he was. I am so very sorry for your loss.
Ann, Elizabeth and Liam
We are so sorry. Our deepest condolences. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
I have such fond memories of Uncle Ellis especially when we would visit DC, and were guests in he (Ann, Liam and Elizabeth's) home for one of many large Gillespie family gatherings. He always had a smile, a funny joke or story, and was just so much fun to be around. Ellis will be so missed by all, but mostly by his beautiful wife and kids. We will cherish the good times, and hold the memories in our hearts forever. Love you Uncle- LAUREN VAN BERGEN
Ann, Liz and Liam,
My heart goes out to you on the sudden loss of your husband and father. Please know that you are in my family's thoughts and prayers. May the memories of his life help you find peace.
Ann, Liz, and Liam, here's hoping that Ellis' spirituality and love for the Divine will also help console you during this painful time.

Ann, as one of your many loving Aging Committee friends, please know that you are in our hearts and prayers. xox
Ann, Liz, and Liam , I am so sorry for your loss. For so many years you all have welcomed me and I loved visiting and spending time with the whole family.
I have loved to see the kids grow up and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers-

One memory I will always have is of Ellis as the Dad who was up for any adventure with his son…and they had many.
I.. we.. had *so many* great times with Ellis and Ann, and the family. Two that stick out for me are when Ellis and Ann were in their first house, I escaped from my small apartment in Dupont Circle for what I thought would be a dinner, and ended up being a 4 day sleepover during the great snowstorm of 1996 I think? Ellis and I were sick with colds so Ann took care of us.. the four of us just watched the beautiful snow outside pile up, and we drank tea and played Rummikub for 4 days straight. Second was when I was traveling through Paris for work when Ann and Ellis were there on vacation, and we all hung out for the night and even went for dinner and drinks together at the renowned Crazy Horse. I will always remember Ellis' (and Ann's) unconditional love and support of me... you will be so dearly missed Ellis!
In response to "What was the most fun you ever had with Ellis?"
Rest In Peace, my dear uncle Ellis. I’ll meet you for a drink at the Crazy Horse, will always playing Rummikub during the snowstorm, talking about God and politics.... You will be so deeply missed and I will be forever grateful for your unconditional love and acceptance. Thank you for taking care of Ann, Liam, and Elizabeth, and for being part of our family.
