Elemer's obituary
Pastor Elemer Caraway, age 75, of Vidalia, died Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Bravera Health Seven Rivers Hospital in Crystal River, Florida after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County and a graduate of Vidalia High School. He worked at Reidsville State Prison before beginning his career in HVAC by co-founding Caraway Metal Works with his brother, Cecil. He would later become the sole owner of Caraway Heating and Air, which operated for nearly forty years. He was also owner of Caraway Enterprises. He founded Calvary Way Church in Lyons as Pastor, and was also a former member and past master of Lyons Masonic Lodge #49. He also served twenty years as chaplain of Memorial Health Meadows Hospital. He is preceded in death by two wives, Marie Thompson and JoAnn Dowd Caraway; parents Doss Caraway and Maryann Melinda Smith; and siblings, Cecil Caraway, D.F. Caraway, Elvin Caraway, Erwin Caraway, and Junior Caraway.
His family includes his wife Patricia Caraway of Beverly Hills, Florida; four children, Annette C. Smith and husband Bruce of Dublin, Melinda C. Yawn of Vidalia, Cynthia G. Oxford and husband James of Wrightsville, and Austin Lee Caraway of Vidalia; two stepsons, Alfred Gerogiannis and wife Tamara of Ocala, Florida and Nicholas Gerogiannis and wife Tanina of Ormond Beach, Florida; one sister, Mary Caraway Murray of Reidsville; five great-grandchildren, Shayla Marie Bearss, Kyle Bruce Smith, Kathryne E. Nobles, Kirsten Powell and Caleb Bridges; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Sunday, February 27th, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Buddy Toole and Pastor Daniel Caraway officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.
