Edward's obituary

Edward “Ed” Dennis Maroney, 75, died on June 8 in his home in Boynton Beach, Florida. He is remembered with love by family, friends, and his AA community.

Ed was born on November 26, 1944, to Edward "Eddie" and Helen Maroney, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, he served four years of honorable service in the U.S. Marines. On the G.I. Bill, he attended Ocean County College and Rutgers University. He established a career as a software developer and a consultant, eventually building his own successful company: S.O.S. Systems.

Ed was a great outdoorsman and he loved being in nature. He especially enjoyed fishing and boating. On the waters of New Jersey, where he grew up and raised his family, he enjoyed pickerel filled creeks, offshore canyons and everything in between. He ran many boats, including stints as a charter captain and a sailor. He shared his passion with his children on fishing adventures around the world, and he formed deep friendships over the years with his fellow sportsmen in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. He had a curious mind. He was an avid reader, a great storyteller and cared deeply about people, especially his children. He loved music.

The middle of three siblings, Ed is survived by his sister Janet and brother-in-law Hank Morano, and his brother Robert and sister-in-law Renate Maroney. Ed is also survived by two loving children, Chris and Kate Maroney, their mother Maureen, and their spouses Noelle Maroney and Red Wierenga. One of Ed’s greatest joys was becoming a grandfather, and recently getting to meet both of his beloved grandchildren, Stella Grace Maroney and Ossian Edward Wierenga. These moments brought incredible light and love for all.
