Ed's obituary
Edward “Ed” Kurfurst, 72, father to Terri Denslow and Cheryl Kurfurst (deceased) passed away peacefully on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, 2025 in Alexandria, Virginia. Born April 18, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to Edward & Mary Kurfurst he was the middle child and sibling to sisters Pam Kurfurst and Patti Wilson.
Ed learned the Sewer and Drain Cleaning trade from his father after the family moved to Virginia in 1979. After marrying Margaret “Marge” Sweet (deceased) they had two children, Terri and Cheryl born in New York and Virigina respectively. Ed proudly started his own Sewer and Drain Cleaning business in 1979 called “Drain Surgeon” and painted his work vehicles in pink to stand out amongst the average crowd. In 1987, Marge and Ed gained custody of his three nephews Thomas “Freido” Boucher, Jayson Boucher and Chris Wilson who lived with the family until Marge and Ed’s separation in 1991. Ed re-married Pam Burnett (deceased) in 2005 in Springfield, Virginia.
In his earlier years, Ed enjoyed playing softball and bowling in local leagues. He was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders, aka “Redskins”, the New York Yankees and the NY Jets. He talked often about his favorite athletes: Joe Theisman, John Riggins, Mickey Mantle, Joe Namath and Yogi Berra. He loved music, especially, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra and his life rang true to the Sintra tune - “I’ll do it my way”. He loved dogs and had many over his life and enjoyed spending time with his grand dogs after Terri and Scott Denslow married in 2003.
His daughters, Terri and Cheryl were the center of his world. The family lost Cheryl to suicide in 2002, and thus the family asks that in lieu of flowers to please send donations in her name (Cheryl Kurfurst) to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).
Funeral services will be held at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA on June 26, 2025, at 11 am. Burial service will follow at Bethel Cemetery, also in Alexandria.
